MARQUETTE, Mich. - Winners of three straight, the Northern Michigan women's basketball team will look to carry over recent success to the last game of the 2023 calendar year, as the Northwood Timberwolves will visit the PEIF Gym on Tuesday, December 19 at 1 p.m.

Northern Michigan used a commanding 27-7 second quarter to triumph the Quincy Hawks 82-56 on Sunday at Wisconsin Dells.
Northern saw all 10 who entered the game find the net in the contest, with
Makaylee Kuhn leading the way on an efficient 20-point, 11-rebound double-double. She shot 8-13 from the floor and added three steals.
Alyssa Nimz tied a career-high with 11 points, all coming in the first half before foul trouble. Nimz wasn't the only 'Cat to hit a career-high, as
Reide Osterman recorded 10 points, all in the final quarter, on 4-6 shooting with a pair of threes.
Jacy Weisbrod chipped in 11 of her own backed by three triples.
The 82 points was the second best output for Northern this season. The 'Cats shot 32-70 (45.7%) from the field while holding Quincy to 21-59 (35.6%). NMU forced the Hawks into 18 turnovers while only giving the ball up eight times themselves, leading to a 21-7 tripling in points off turnovers. NMU also dominated off the bench, with 42 points coming from the reserve unit.

- Northern leads the GLIAC in fewest turnovers/game (11.8), which is the fifth best mark in the country. Northern is third in the GLIAC in FT percentage (76.6%) and rebounding margin (5.5). As a team, NMU allows just 6.1 offensive rebounds/game to opponents, the fewest across conference teams.
- Makaylee Kuhn is second in the conference averaging 17.6 ppg and is fourth at 7.6 rpg. Kuhn is 55-64 (85.0%) from the free throw line this season, seventh in the GLIAC.
- Kuhn currently has 1,646 career points. That mark is 53 points off of the all-time NMU lead (1,699 points - Lisa Jamula). Kuhn is a three-time All-GLIAC First Teamer and was named to the Preseason First Team.
- Mackenzie Holzwart is averaging 8.0 ppg, 3.8 apg, and 5.7 rpg. Holzwart also leads the team with 15 steals on the season. She is sixth in the GLIAC in assists and eighth in defensive rebounds (4.3).
- The Green and Gold present a balanced scoring attack, as nine different 'Cats have recorded a double-digit output game this season.
- During NMU's three-game winning streak, they are shooting 47.2% from the floor and 39.7% from three. They have held opponents to 32.4% shooting while recording 5.0 more assists, 9.6 more rebounds, and 4.3 fewer turnovers per game.

The Timberwolves enter the matchup on a two-game winning streak. Northwood is 5-3 overall with a 2-1 GMAC record. NU is 2-1 away from their home court, with road wins at GLIAC members Saginaw Valley State (86-78) and Lake Superior State (76-69).
Northwood shoots 41.6% from the field. They shoot plenty from beyond the arc, as their average of 8.1 makes per game from three is 17th in the country. The Timberwolves' scoring is led by upperclassmen Jayla Strickland (13.0), Maddie Voelker (11.1), Mackenzie Todd (11.0), Alli Keyser (10.9), and Ava DiMilia (10.0). Point guard Maizie Taylor averages nearly six assists per game, a top ten mark in Division II.
