STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Northern Michigan wrestling team opened its season at the Pointer Open in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on Saturday. Two Wildcats had top three finishes while 10 recorded multiple victories on the mat.
Natasha Kuberski finished in 2nd in the 191+ bracket after going 2-1, picking up a tech fall win and a decision victory in her matches.
Marisa Roth took third in the 143 bracket with a 5-1 mark. She totaled two victories by tech fall, two by decision, and another by fall.
Noelle Gaffney finished in 4th place in the 155 bracket, adding three match victories on the mat.
Jenna Filieri and
Danielle Lopez also added three victories apiece in the 155 bracket, making it a standout bracket for Northern.
Abigale Swanson also earned a 4th place finish, with hers coming in the 170 bracket. Swanson went 4-2.
Zhivanna Magdaleno took 6th place in the 123 bracket with a pair of victories.
Sharon Leon (136),
Mickaela Keane (170), and
Ruby Joseph (170) each added multiple victories in their bracket as well.
As a team, the Wildcats racked up 12 pins, the third highest total at the meet. Swanson totaled four, which tied for the individual high.
