ADRIAN, Mich. - The Northern Michigan wrestling team competed at Adrian College this past weekend, finishing in 9th place of 23 competing teams at the invite and going 2-2 in duals.
Noelle Gaffney won the 155 bracket with a perfect 5-0 record on Sunday.
Saturday - Adrian Duals
In match one, the Wildcats defeated Tiffin, 29-14.
Zhivanna Magdaleno (123 bracket),
Sharon Leon (136),
Marisa Roth (143),
Noelle Gaffney (155),
Abigale Swanson (170), and
Mickaela Keane (191) were victorious on NMU's side.
The Wildcats then defeated John Carroll, 31-16.
Trinity Valentin (101), Magdaleno (123),
Samantha Chaon (130), Leon (136), Roth (143),
Jenna Filieri (155), and Swanson (170) picked up wins for the Green and Gold.
Northern then fell to McKendree, 38-6. Roth got the best in the 143 while Gaffney also picked up another victory in the 155 class.
In the final match, NMU fell to North Central College, 39-10. Roth and Swanson grabbed the wins for the Wildcats, leading to a 2-2 record in the duals.

Sunday - Adrian Invite
On Sunday at the Invite, the Wildcats finished in 9th place, totaling 64 team points. North Central College won with 507.5 points, while Lock Haven (193 points) and Aurora (129 points) rounded out the top three.
For NMU,
Noelle Gaffney won the 155 bracket, going a perfect 5-0 to total 23.5 team points. She won by decision over Tiera Jamison of North Central College in the first place match. Gaffney also picked up two other victories by decision as well as one by fall and another by tech fall.
In the 136 class,
Sharon Leon took 8th place, going 4-2 with all four wins by fall. She added 13.5 team points. Over in the 170 bracket,
Abigale Swanson also finished in 8th place with a 3-3 record. She added 10.5 points with a pair of wins by fall.
Trinity Valentin (1-2),
Samantha Chaon (1-2),
Danielle Lopez (3-2), and
Mickaela Keane (3-2) also added team points to the Wildcat score.
The Wildcats recorded 11 pins as a team, the 8th most at the tournament.
