MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NMU women's basketball team will look to bounce back this week with a pair of conference games against Grand Valley State and Davenport.
Northern Michigan (10-6, 5-2) will be put to the test on Thursday, January 19 as the No. 3 GVSU Lakers (16-1, 7-0) will be at the Berry Events Center for a 7:30 evening opening tip. Davenport (7-10, 1-6) will round out the weekend, as they face the 'Cats on Saturday, January 21 a 3 p.m.

Last Time Out
NMU came up short against the No. 21 Michigan Tech Huskies (14-3, 6-1) last Saturday at the Berry, falling 69-56. NMU went 21-55 (38.2%) from the floor while MTU was 26-54 (48.1%). The 'Cats never led in the contest and trailed by as many as 15. Despite getting the deficit to six points in the fourth quarter, NMU could not stop the Huskies when needed.
Makaylee Kuhn led all scorers with 24 points on 10-17 shooting.
Mackenzie Holzwart also had an efficient offensive display with 16 points. The Huskies had four in double figures led by Ellie Mackay with 19 points.
Cat Attack
The Wildcats are 10-6 (5-2 GLIAC) this season and are currently fourth in the GLIAC standings. NMU averages 62.1 PPG while holding opponents to 57.8 a contest.
NMU is led by
Makaylee Kuhn with an average of 15.9 PPG and 7.6 RPG.
Mackenzie Holzwart averages 9.6 PPG and 5.5 RPG. She leads the team with 27 steals on the season while
Ana Rhude has accumulated 28 blocks.

The Wildcats enter the week receiving votes in the Midwest Regional poll. The Lakers are 3rd in the country and 1st in the Midwest.

Scouting the Lakers
GVSU comes into the week ranked No. 3 in the country, supporting an unblemished 7-0 GLIAC record. On the season, they are 16-1. GVSU averages 81.6 PPG while holding opponents to 51.4 PPG, the 3rd lowest mark in the country. Grand Valley's 30.2 scoring margin is the best in DII hoops.
The Lakers also are among the best at shooting, coming in at 4th in the nation in FG% at 48.4% and 5th in 3P% at 39.0%. Nicole Kamin leads the Lakers from beyond the arc, shooting 47.8%. Emily Spitzley paces the GVSU attack, averaging 15.1 PPG.
Scouting the Panthers
Davenport enters the week 7-10 overall and 1-6 in the GLIAC. They average 63.0 PPG and allow the opposition to score at a rate of 69.6 PPG.
Lillee Gustafson paces the Panthers in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.2 PPG and 9.4 RPG.
