MIAMI, Fla. - The Wildcats swim and dive team was down south this weekend where they competed in the CSCAA Open Water National Championships.
Ondrej Zach returned to the competition with a fierce mindset where he came in second place behind an opponent from Mars Hill University. Zach had a pace of 17:36 and finished with a time of 54:40.87.
Jasper Pullinen,
Logan Robillard, and
Thibault Auger competed in the men's individual competition. Pullinen placed 22nd, with Robillard close behind in 25th, and Auger found himself in 57th.
Coming in 76th was
Vanessa Steigauf, who came out of the water at 1:04:47.45. Only three places behind her was
Michaela Nelson who kept a steady pace of 20:54 throughout the race.
Caitlin Aarseth and Txell Font-Cantarero were close together in the pack where they placed 93rd and 96th with final times of 1:05:34.52 and 1:05:49.09.
As for team scores, the men fared well when they made it into 4th place of 15 teams behind University of Cincinnati (1st), Northwestern University (2nd), and Villanova University (3rd). Zach, Pullinen, Robillard, and Auger fell behind Villanova by .26 when they had a final time of 2:50:02.
The women placed 18th at the event. The Wildcats had an end time of 3:15:20 with their lap times being quite consistent. Steigauf had a time of 1:04:48, Nelson with 1:04:57, Aarseth with 1:05:35, and Font-Cantarero ending it with a time of 1:05:50.

You can catch the Wildcats back in action once they return from winter break. They will take on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on January 14, 2023 in Marquette before they hit the road for a meet against Green Bay.
