Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich.- The Northern Michigan University women's basketball traveled west on US-41 N for a Monday, Dec. 6, matchup against No. 23 Michigan Technological University as they continued Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
A strong effort on the glass ultimately didn't pay off as NMU fell by a score of 78-53.
FIRST QUARTER
Senior
Elizabeth Lutz came out strong for NMU, dropping a three pointer from behind the arch to get the game started.
MTU answered back, grabbing the lead back from NMU to make the game 11-10 half way through the first.
The Huskies' run continued, leading at the half 19-14.
SECOND QUARTER
After a slow start to the second quarter, sophomore standout
Makaylee Kuhn started tallying points for the 'Cats bringing them to within reach.
The Wildcats continued to answer back to the Huskies run, but at the half MTU led 41-29.
AT THE HALF
Kuhn led in minutes played for NMU with 16, shooting 50-percent from the field for a total of 13 points.
Junior
Elena Alaix was second on the team in rebounds with four.
NMU controlled the glass with 20 rebounds to MTUs 15.
The Wildcats shot 100 percent from the charity stripe.
THIRD QUARTER
The Huskies continued to find success, going on a 7-0 run to start the second half.
Northern answered back, as they looked to keep it within arms reach.
Sophomore
Samantha Potter, knocked down two from the free throw line to bring NMU within 12.
The Huskies led 58-46 by the end of the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
MTU found the first basket in the fourth quarter, bringing their lead to 14.
Andrea Perez worked her way into the paint for a layup, bringing the 'Cats to within reach.
The game started to slow down, as both teams struggled to find points.
NMU continued to battle but fell short by a score of 78-53
STAT LEADERS
Kuhn led the team with a total of 19 points, while adding a team high nine rebounds.
Freshman
Vivianne Jende was second on the team in scoring with a total of 11 points, shooting 55 percent from the field.
NMU out-rebounded MTU by a margin of eight for a total of 40-32.
UP NEXT
Northern finds their way back home for a matchup in the Berry Events Center,on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m. Ferris State University comes into the tip off with an impressive record of (8-1, 2-0 GLIAC). NMU will look to continue their dominating efforts along the glass to pull away with the win.
