Box Score HOUGHTON, MICH. - The Northern Michigan University men's basketball team took on historic rival, Michigan Technological University, continuing their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Wildcats fell to the Huskies, 77-76, in a well fought game.
STAT LEADERS
Senior
Tre Harvey led Northern in points, with 15, shooting 50 percent from the field. Harvey also accrued three rebounds during the game.
Graduate transfer
John Kerr led the Wildcats in rebounds and was second on the team in points with six and 14.
Junior
Jack Rusch shot an impressive 50 percent from the field, totalling 11 points in the process. Â Rusch also picked up six boards over the course of the game.
Sophomore
Carson Smith shot 83 percent from the field, amassing 12 points during the game. Smith also had two rebounds on the night.
Senior
Max Bjorklund had an impressive night tallying eight points, dishing three rebounds and pulling down two boards over the course of the game.
FIRST HALF
The first half was closely contested between the Wildcats and Huskies. Â Both teams were within five points of each other during the first 15 minutes of play.
Rusch was a key stat leader for the 'Cats, tallying nine points over 20 minutes of play.Â
Other key players were Schultz and Harvey who both scored six points over the first half while grabbing three and two rebounds respectively.
Kerr and Freshman
Brian Parzych both led the team in rebounds at four apiece, during the first half.
The 'Cats led the half in free throw percentage at 71 percent, going five for seven from the charity stripe.Â
The Wildcats shot an impressive 50 percent from three point range, going four for eight from behind the arc.
Northern found themselves leading the rebound category, pulling down a total of 23 during the half.
The Wildcats found themselves down at the half, 29-36, against the Huskies.
SECOND HALF
Continuing into the second half, the 'Cats and Huskies continued to play a tough competitive game. Â Both teams were neck and neck throughout the majority of the half.
Harvey continued his stellar play, accruing nine points throughout the second half.
Smith had an outstanding second half, tallying 12 points over 20 minutes of play.
Harvey hit a clutch three point shot with one second left on the clock, to put the Wildcats within three of the Huskies.
The Wildcats fell to Michigan Tech, 77-76.
