MARQUETTE, Mich. -- As the 2021-2022 season comes to an end for the Women's Soccer team here at Northern Michigan University, the Wildcats had two standout performers this year that led them to their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament run and also earned all tournament honors.
The 'Cats ended their season on an amazing final stretch starting with wins over Saginaw Valley University and Purdue Northwest University. Following those two wins the Wildcats beat school rival and nationally ranked Michigan Technological University in back-to-back games to make it to the second round of GLIAC playoffs where they unfortunately fell 2-1 in a tough battle with nationally ranked Grand Valley State University Lakers, the 2019-2020 NCAA division II national champions.
The first player named to the GLIAC Women's Soccer All-Tournament Team was senior forward from Sao Paulo, Brazil,
Isabela Cardoso. Cardoso had an amazing senior season for the 'Cats starting all 16 games she appeared in. Cardoso also led her team in goals with 10 on the season, and in points with 23. Cardoso earned GLIAC all-conference honorable mention this season as well. In her last tournament run Cardoso had two points in both games as well as a goal in both games for the Wildcats.
The second individual named to the GLIAC Women's Soccer All-Tournament Team was junior midfielder from Hartland, Michigan,
Caroline Halonen. Halonen led her team in shots, shots on goal, and assists this season. Halonen also made her way to the top of conference standings for various weeks for shots on the season with a total of 66. In the 'Cats tournament run Halonen played all 90 minutes both games to help her team advance to the second round of GLIAC playoffs.
