MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Men's Basketball takes on former Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes Ohio Dominican University and Hillsdale College this week at the Hillsdale Thanksgiving Classic Tuesday and Wednesday.

LAST TIME OUT

Northern Michigan outscored University of Minnesota-Duluth 39-17 in the second half to pick up a 64-52 victory over the Bulldogs. The Wildcat defense held the Bulldogs to just 24% from the field and 20% from the three-point line. On opening weekend, the team picked up a 93-70 win over McKendree University and followed it by defeating Lewis 77-59 as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Great Lakes Valley Conference Challenge.

LEADING THE WAY
|
Senior Isaiah Johnson (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) and Naba Echols (Memphis, Tenn.) both scored 18 points to pace the Wildcat offense in their win over UMD. For the season, Johnson is leading the GLIAC with 25 points a game, scoring a career-high 33 points in a win over Lewis University. Echols is averaging 18 points a game this season.

MAKING SHOTS
|
A key to the team's hot start is their shooting. The Wildcats are currently shooting 49.1% from the field and 45.3% from behind the arc to start the 2018-19 season. NMU is averaging nearly 10 made three-pointers per game, 9.7 per night. The team has also held an advantage from the free throw line. After the first three game, the WIldcats are averaging 12 made free throws per game and only allowing their opponent 10 chances a game.

GETTING DEFENSIVE
|
NMU's defense is currently third in the GLIAC, allowing just 60.3 points per game. Helping aide the defense has been key individual performers. Junior Myles Howard (Chicago, Ill.) is averaging 3.0 blocks per game and is second in the GLIAC. Junior Sam Taylor (Chicago, Ill.) is averaging 2.0 steals per game, placing him sixth in the league.

NMU VERSUS ODU
|
NMU won the first four matchups and leads the series 5-2 all-time with the teams splitting their last two meetings. The first matchup came in the 2010-11 season with the teams playing once each year while ODU was a part of the GLIAC. The Panthers are 3-1 on the year with their lone loss coming to Ashland, 66-60.

NMU VERSUS HILLSDALE
|
NMU holds a 32-27 all-time series advantage. This will mark the first matchup since Hillsdale left the GLIAC after the 2016-17 season after playing each other every year since the 1987-88 season. Hillsdale is currently 2-1 on the season.
