Box Score QUINCY, Ill. — The Northern Michigan women's basketball team was downed by Truman State, 71-54, in the second day of action at the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs and Wildcats would find themselves tied in a cat and dog fight early in the contest. The score would be tied 10-10 at the 5:37 mark, Bre Gaspervich would hit a three point shot to tie up the contest. Truman State would hold the lead at the end of one, 20-18.
Chloe Tompkins would come out of the break accounting for five unanswered points alone and giving the Wildcats an early lead, 23-22, at the 8:47 mark. The Bulldogs would answer and go on what would be a 9-0 run proving to be the difference in the second quarter. Truman State would hold the edge at the half, 39-28.
Both teams would come out of the halftime and struggle to establish themselves. The Wildcats would outscore the Bulldogs, 11-10, in the third and head into the final quarter of play trailing by 10 at 49-39.
The Wildcats would find themselves trailing by 10 with 6:42 remaining at 55-45. A Tompkins jumper would chip the Bulldog lead to nine with 3:40 remaining. That would be closest the Wildcats would be able to get as Truman would go on a 10-2 run to finish the game.
Tompkins would lead the Wildcats with her 15-point performance. Kendall Martenet would add 10 points of her own and four rebounds.
Northern Michigan would go 8-13 from the free throw line and collect 28 rebounds as a team.
The Wildcats will return to action when they travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. to take part in the LSSU tournament. Northern Michigan will face Minnesota Duluth Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
