MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â" The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s basketball team concluded the 2005-06 season with a loss toMichigan Tech 67-57.  The Wildcats end the season with a 6-19 overall recordand a 2-16 slate in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference(GLIAC).  The Huskies move onto the GLIAC Tournament with a record of 19-7 and14-4 respectively.

The first half was fairly tight as neither team had adouble-digit lead.  MTU had a 22-14 lead with 8:27 left in the half before NMUwent on an 11-0 run which (25-22) was capped off by a lay-up by Danicia Braunwith a little under six minutes left.  A basket by Cassi Rushford gave theâ€Â˜Cats the lead at 27-24 with 4:35 on the clock.  Allison Carroll made one ofher two free throws with 29 seconds left in the half to give NMU the 31-29lead, with no time left on the clock the Huskies connected for a three-pointerto take the 32-31 lead at the intermission.

The Huskies came out in the second half with a 14-7 run totake a 12-point lead at 48-36 with under 13 minutes left in the game.  With alittle over five minutes showing on the clock and holding a 17-point lead theâ€Â˜Cats did cut the margin with a basket by Carroll and two free throws from TeraOpperman.  Maria Kasza made the final basket of the season which was athree-pointer for the final margin.

Rushford led the â€Â˜Cats with 12 points.  Kasza had adouble-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Carroll ended the game with 11points and five rebounds.  Kelsey Deacon was the final â€Â˜Cat in double-figureswith 10 points as she added four assists and two steals.  Amanda Sieja led theHuskies with 20 points.

For the game the â€Â˜Cats were 22-52 from the floor for 42.3percent.  From the three-point line NMU was 7-20 for 35 percent.  The â€Â˜Catsmade eight trips to the free throw line and sank six throws for 75 percent. MTU won the battle on the glass with a 35-26 count.
