Women's Golf Concludes Action at Warrior Invitational

WASHINGTON, Mich. -- The NMU women's golf team wrapped up team play at the Warrior Invitational, finishing ninth of 14 teams.

Taking place at the Orchards GC in Washington, Michigan, the field played two rounds of 18 holes on Monday before wrapping up with the third round of play on Tuesday morning. The Wildcats finished with a three-round total of +129 after rounds of +43, +37, and +49. Ashland won the team competition, turning in a three-round total of +49, followed by hosts Wayne at +59, and Lewis in third at +67.

As a team, the 'Cats were T4 in par three scoring (3.30 avg.), 9th in par four scoring (4.84 avg.), and sixth in par five scoring (5.48). The Wildcats 17 team birdies and 113 team pars both ranked eighth, while the team's 97 bogeys and 43 double-bogey+ were both seventh of 14 teams.

The par-72 Orchards GC played 5,980 yards all three rounds, averaging a score of 84.08 through 246 individual rounds turned in. Abbie Pietila led the way for the 'Cats, shooting a three-round total of +25 thanks to rounds of 83 (+11), 76 (+4), and 82 (+10) to finish T26 of 83. Pietila was one of just four players to shoot even or better on the par-3s, one of just seven to shoot even or better on the par-5s, and paced the entire field of 83 student-athletes with nine birdies. Pietila carded four birdies in rounds one and two before a lone birdie on the par five 15th on Tuesday.

Maddy Martens and Aavra Relich were next for the Green and Gold, finishing 40th and T42 at +33 and +35, and leading the Wildcats in par four scoring at 4.77 and 4.80, respectively. Martens fired home rounds of 83 (+11), 81 (+9), and 85 (+13), while Relich turned in cards of 81 (+9), 85 (+13), and 85 (+13). Relich (27) and Martens (25) also led the team in pars.

Four strokes back of Relich was Payton Donnelly at +39 in 48th, who was second on the team with three birdies, followed by Hailey Bolander at +41 in T54. Abby Luke competed as an individual, where she turned in a three-day score of +63.
