Women's Golf Finishes Eighth at GLIAC Championships

Abbie Pietila shot a three-round +28 to lead the 'Cats

AUGUSTA, Mich. --  The NMU women's golf team's season has officially come to a close, finishing eighth at the GLIAC Championship.

The team shot a three-round total of +151, which put them 41 strokes behind seventh-place Purdue Northwest. The full list of team scoring and results can be found at Scoreboard, powered by Clippd.

Abbie Pietila led the 'Cats for the tournament, shooting a three-round total of +28, which netted her 25th place. She scored a total of three birdies on the par-4 7th and 10th holes as well as the par-5 15th hole. Pietila also secured 30 pars over the course of the three rounds. 

Finishing second on the team was Payton Donnelly with a +32 for the weekend. Donnelly also finished with three birdies as she scored them on par-5 holes 5 and 18 as well as on the par-3 17th hole. 

Finishing back to back to back were Maddy Martens, Aavra Relich, and Gabriella Moreau. They finished in 36th-38th for the weekend and scored a birdie each for the weekend. 

For the field, GVSU pulled ahead on the final day to finish the opening three rounds in first place at +31, just ahead of Ferris State's +35. Both teams will advance to the medal match playoff finals. GVSU's advantage on the par-5s overcame their par-3 deficit to win them the opening rounds. GSVU made up a seven-point deficit from the first day to eventually win the opening three rounds. 

Kamryn Shannon's five birdies in the third and final round secured her the victory as she led Ferris State to the playoff with a final score of +4. In second, just one stroke behind were Charlotte Goersch of GVSU, Lauren Gervais of Davenport, and Marissa GeRue of SVSU in what was a tightly contested finish for the top spot.
