Wildcats Finish 10th at Lewis Flyer Spring Invite

CHICAGO -- The NMU women's golf team concluded play from the Flyer Spring Invitational, finishing in 10th place with a 27-hole score of +83.

The tournament was originally scheduled for a full 36-holes, but was cut short on Tuesday due to inclement weather. The teams golfed 27 holes on Monday before the tournament was called for the field.

Sophomore Abbie Pietila led the 'Cats with her 27-hole score of +17, finishing T29 among the field. Pietila opened on hole ten, where she carded a +5 41 on the back before shooting a +4 40 to round out her 18-holes, including carding a birdie on the par-four sixth to open a finishing stretch of -1 in her last four holes of the opening 18. Immediately after, Pietila hopped back onto the tee box of ten, where she played her final nine holes with a score of +8.

As a team, the 'Cats averaged 4.03 on the par threes, 5.05 on par fours, and 5.93 on the par fives. NMU carded four birdies, 49 pars, 50 bogeys, and 38 doubles+.

Maddy Martens (+19) and Aavra Relich (+21) were next, finishing T38 and T42 on the field with their respective scores. Martens posted an opening round 83 followed by a +8 in her ensuing ten holes, while Relich posted an opening 87 followed by a +6 in her next ten holes. Relish carded three birdies, leading the team and T4 on the field, only two back of the leader.

Payton Donnelly (+26) finished T48, and Gabriella Moreau rounded out the field at +61.

NMU now eyes the Upper Iowa Invite at the Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa. The tournament is set to run from Friday, April 3, to Saturday, April 4.
