MARQUETTE, Mich. – The GLIAC Tournament has arrived. For the fourth straight season, the Northern Michigan women's basketball team will be home for the quarterfinal round as they will host rival Michigan Tech on Wednesday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m.
The Wildcats closed the regular season with two wins to finish 24-6 overall and 15-5 in the GLIAC, earning the No. 4 seed. The Huskies split the final weekend to finish 16-12 overall and 10-10 in the league, securing the No. 5 seed.
The Wildcats have won both matchups this season by an average of 19.5 points and will look to make it three-for-three against their Upper Peninsula foe.

About the 'Cats
The Wildcats defeated Roosevelt 89-58 and Parkside 65-56 to close out the regular season slate. NMU is 10-3 on its home court and will look to reach 25 wins for the first time since the 1999-2000 season (25-6).
Jacy Weisbrod closed the regular season as the nation's three-point leader. Her 103 made triples lead all of Division II and Division I players, while her 3.43 makes per game is second. Weisbrod is leading the GLIAC with 16.8 points per game, and her 40.7% three-point percentage is third. She has 12 games with 20+ points and 15 games making at least four triples.
Sarah Newcomer follows with an impressive 73 made threes. She ranks top-30 nationally in both made threes and three-point percentage. Her 11.2 points per game are second on the Wildcats.
CJ Romero holds a 2.2 assist/turnover ratio, the best in the conference and 14th nationally. Her 4.6 assists per game rank second in the conference. She leads the way for a Wildcat group that is third nationally in turnovers per game (11.5) and ninth in assist/turnover ratio (1.22).
Alyssa Hill is fourth throughout the league with 7.6 rebounds per game and is coming off a career-high 18 rebound performance.
The Wildcats defeated Michigan Tech 74-46 on Jan. 8 in Houghton and 68-57 on Feb. 19 in Marquette. NMU has six double-digit scoring performances against the Huskies this season, with Romero the lone Wildcat to reach that mark in each game.
NMU has won four of the past five over Tech following a 14-game skid.
A Look at Michigan Tech
The Huskies fell to Parkside 61-46, but bounced back in the finale with a 70-51 victory over Roosevelt. They are 6-7 away from home, which includes dropping five of the past six.
Tech presents a balanced attack with four Huskies averaging in double figures. Ella Mason (13.1) leads the way, followed by Alyssa Wypych (11.2), Soraya Timms (10.6), and Janie Tormanen (10.3). Kendall Standfest, averaging 9.6 points per game, leads the team on the glass with 6.7 per contest.
Michigan Tech shoots well from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line. Their 32.6% from three is third in the conference, while their 80.3% success rate at the charity stripe is second. Wypych's 87.2 free-throw percentage leads the GLIAC.
