Men's Swim finish Final Preliminary Session at NCAA Championships

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Saturday morning session has concluded for the NMU swim team at the NCAA's.

Senior veteran Leo Nolles posted the seventh-fastest time in the 100 freestyle qualifying and will compete for a national title in the championship heat this afternoon.

Matteo Ballardin just missed making the evening session in the 200 breast, as he finished 18th overall.

Timothee Garin posted a time of 15:48.28 to finish seventh in his heat of the 1650 free. Swimmers don't compete in the 1650 free both in the morning and afternoon, and his final position will be updated after tonight's finals.

How It Happened
LaCount opened the 100 free for the 'Cats, swimming in lane four of heat three. LaCount got a great jump off the block and good underwater work to take an early lead after the opening 50, and would finish sixth in the heat and 20th overall at the time of finishing. Nolles took to the pool two heats later, swimming in lane nine of heat five. The senior had himself a really solid race all around, finishing third in the heat and fourth overall at the time of finishing. Leroux took to the pool in the penultimate heat, swimming in lane seven of heat six. Leroux pushed the entire race, touching the wall at 43.96 to finish fourth in the heat and 15th overall with one heat left.

Ballardin featured in lane nine of the final heat in the 200 breast. Ballardin posted a time of 2:00.30 to finish sixth in the heat and 18th overall.

Garin represented NMU in the 1650 free, swimming in lane two of heat two of the final pool event of the morning. Garin finished seventh in the first 1650 free heat of the morning session, where he finished seventh overall with a time of 15:48.28.
