NMU Golf at Flyer Fall Intercollegiate

The women finished 6th of 11, and the men finish T14 of 15

LEMONT, Ill. -- The NMU women's and men's golf team finished competition in Illinois, with both teams competing in the Flyers Fall Intercollegiate, hosted by Lewis University.

Taking place at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club, teams played two rounds on Monday before concluding the 54-hole tournament on Tuesday. As a team, the women finished middle of the pack at 6th place, and the men finished T14 of 15 teams. The women posted a three-round total of +123, thanks to 18-hole team scores of +43, +36, and +44. As a team, the 'Cats averaged 3.69 on the par threes, 4.71 on the par fours, and 5.40 on the par fives, an average good for third on the field. NMU carded nine birdies and 130 pars, a number good for third on the field. 

Maddy Martens paced the team with a three-round total of +28 to finish T19 on the field. After an opening round of +16, Martens bounced back with a second round score of +4, then rounded out the tournament with a third-round score of +8. Martens' second round of 76 featured her two lone birdies of the tournament, coming on the par-four ninth and par-four 17th, along with 11 pars. Hailey Bolander finished second on the team and 23rd on the field with her score of +30, where she finished T5 in par-five scoring (5.11), T9 in total pars (31), and her 12 bogeys were the second-fewest on the field.

Abbie Pietila finished third on the team and T27 overall at +32, Aavra Relich fourth and T33 at +36, and Payton Donnelly fifth and T46 at +50. 

The men carded a three-round score of +93 after shooting rounds of +34, +34, and +25. The Wildcats averaged 3.67 on the par threes, 4.52 on the par fours, and 5.22 on the par fives. The team carded 18 birdies and 134 pars on the tournament. 

Freshman Boden Moore paced the Wildcats and finished T25 overall, posting a three-day total of +14 thanks to rounds of +5, +6, and +3. Moore carded six birdies over three rounds, the most among all 'Cats, and led the Wildcats in par three and par four scoring. Jacob Daavettila finished second on the team and T47 overall with a score of +21 after firing rounds of +10, +2, and +9. Daavettila's second round 74 was two strokes off the lowest round in round two, where he carded 16 pars.

Easton Aho (+28), Harvey Ylitalo (+33), and Levi Pennala (+35) rounded out the 'Cats scoring, finishing T70, T77, and T80 on the field.

The 'Cats now look ahead to October 17 and October 18, when the team travels to Augusta, Michigan, for the Panther Invite, hosted by Davenport.
