Boden Moore finishes T4 at Motor City Shakedown

Moore, a freshman from Marquette, carded his best finish as a member of the Green and Gold

GROSSE ILE, Mich. -- Boden Moore finished T4 at the Motor City Shakedown to close out the fall for the NMU men's golf team.

Moore, a freshman from Marquette, Michigan, led the way for the Green and Gold, shooting a three-round score of +7 to finish T4 at the West Shore G&CC. Hosted by Wayne State, both Andrew Daily and Josh Lahner had home-course advantage, winning the tournament at -4, with teammate Grant Ofield in third at +5.

Moore opened his tournament with an impressive -2 (69), a round that featured five birdies and planted him with the second-best score of the opening round, only behind Lahner and tied with Daily. Moore started on hole 4, and after bogeying the long par-four fifth, he would shoot -4 in his next 13 holes. A bogey on one followed by two pars closed his round at -2. Round two featured four birdies, but some costly double-bogeys saw him turn in a +4 75 in round two. Round three also featured four birdies, with Moore circling the par-five 16th all three rounds, but fewer pars found its way onto the card, and Moore ended with a +5 76. For the tournament, Moore's 13 birdies were second-most, one behind Lahner of WSU, and his par three (3.17, +2), par four (4.24, +8), and par five (4.67, -3) were all top eight marks on the field.

"Nice seeing our young guys lead the way," added head coach Ben Johnson when speaking with nmuwildcats.com post-tournament. "This team is only going to continue to grow and get better."

Part of that young core is sophomore Jacob Daavettila and freshman Easton Aho, who is best friends with Moore. Daavettila posted a three-round score of +14 to finish T13, and Aho posted a score of +18 to finish 20. Both golfers showed improvement from round to round, with Daavettila posting rounds of +6, +5, and +3, and Aho making great strides with rounds of +14, +5, and a -1 70 in the final round. Daavettila led the field in par three scoring (3.00, E), and Aho finished top-10 in par four scoring (4.24, +8).

Harvey Ylitalo (+25) and Levi Pennala (+37) finished at 24 and 26, with both making improvements from their respective first rounds. Ylitalo scored +10, +8, and +7, while Pennala shot +18, +12, and +7.

The West Shore G&CC played as a 6,635-yard, par-71 course all three rounds, with an average score of 75.54 from 80 rounds turned in through three days. The Wildcats were third in par-three scoring (3.37, +25), T3 in par-four scoring (4.41, +76), and fourth in par-five scoring (5.14, +7). The 'Cats 38 birdies and 148 pars were both fourth; its 96 bogeys were third, and 24 doubles+ were tied for most with Roosevelt.

Hosts Wayne State claimed the tournament title with a score of -4, followed by Roosevelt at +39, Purdue Northwest at +40, and NMU at +64.

The Wildcats are now done with its fall calendar for the 2026/27 season and will return to competition in March 2027.
