PREVIEW: Wildcats Hit the Road to Battle in Minnesota

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan women's lacrosse team hits the road to play a conference match versus Concordia-St. Paul and a non-conference match against the College of Saint Benedict. 

The Wildcats started last weekend strong, a 9-6 win against Davenport, but ended the weekend with a heartbreaking 11-12 loss to GVSU in overtime. 

Northern is set to face Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m. ET, and the College of Saint Benedict on Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m. ET.

A Look At The 'Cats
NMU enters the weekend holding a record of 7-4 overall and 2-1 in conference after playing Davenport (9-6) and GVSU (11-12) this past weekend. 

Sophomore Josie Lakosky (41-16--57) leads the Green and Gold offense, having won GLIAC Player of the Week twice, along with IWLCA Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Lakosky recently broke and set the NMU single-game points record on two separate occasions. 

Freshman Hannah Jabas (22-5--27) and senior Taylor Priestley (16-8--24) follow behind Lakosky in points. Maddi Bast (19-1--20), Sophie Langsdale (12-1--13), and Abby Sisson (9-2--11) have also proven to be key players on the Wildcats' offense. As for the netminders, redshirt freshman Zoe Montgomery has a save percentage of 48.1%, averaging 8.82 goals against per game. Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Esposito has a save percentage of 42.3%, with a goals against average of 9.24. 

A Look at Concordia-St. Paul
A crucial GLIAC matchup, Concordia-St. Paul holds a 6-5 overall record and a 2-1 GLIAC record. Like the 'Cats, the Golden Bears took a loss from GVSU last Friday (10-17) but defeated the Davenport Panthers 11-9 in their most recent games. 

Junior Susie Monson (20-21--41) leads the Golden Bears' offense, scoring four goals against Grand Valley and one against Davenport last weekend. Senior Anna Fisher (35-5--40) follows only one point behind, as Fisher has scored six goals in three games so far this season, including 15 goals in her past four games. Freshman goalkeeper Katie Colleran holds a save percentage of 49.5%, averaging 10.48 goals against per game.

The Wildcats are 9-7 overall versus the Golden Bears, having won the past six games. NMU's last win was in Allendale, Michigan, where they beat the Golden Bears 15-6 in the GLIAC semifinals. 

A Look At the College of Saint Benedict
The Bennies currently have a 2-4 overall record and are 0-2 in WIAC conference play. The College of Saint Benedict is on a three-game losing streak, falling versus Chapman University (9-21) and No. 19 Colorado College (4-17) last weekend. 

The Bennies' offense is led by Junior Sami Hackley (15-6--21), who scored one goal against Chapman and two against Colorado College. Following behind Hackley are freshman Ava Mosley (10-4--14) and freshman Hannah Kurowski (6-6--12), who both scored one goal in last weekend's matchups. Starting goalkeeper Chloe Lewis holds a 38.0% save percentage, averaging 15 goals against per game. 

The 'Cats have only ever played the Bennies once, that being last spring in the Superior Dome, where Northern earned a 20-3 victory.
