Women's Golf

Maggie Pietila Seventh, Wildcats Fifth through 18 Holes at Saddlebrook

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fl. - The NMU women's golf team wrapped up competition from day two at the Saddlebrook Sping Kickoff, maintaining its fifth-place position after 36 holes.

All teams maintained their positions from round one to round two, with the 'Cats posting a round two score of +75 for a two-day total of +135. No. 5 Marian sits first at +57, followed by No. 32 Bethel at +90 and McKendree in third at +104. NMU sits 15 strokes back of Walsh and four strokes ahead of No. 40 Indiana East, with Saint Xavier rounding out the teams at +292.

The 'Cats average 4.10 on the par threes, 5.21 on the par fours, and 6.38 on the par fives.

"The strong wind and rainy conditions made play very difficult today," said head coach Ben Johnson. "With that being said, weather is something we have to get used to playing in, and I am looking forward to having a solid final round."

Despite the rain and windy conditions, the course played just a hair harder, recording an average score of 92.33 compared to yesterday's 91.28.

Maggie Pietila
had the second-best round of the day for the 'Cats while maintaining her top-10 position, recording a second round +16 (88) to give her a two-day total of +22, just five strokes back of fourth place. Maggie's second round featured two of the three Wildcat birdies, including circles on the par-four sixth and par-four eleventh. Her birdie on six was just one of three, and her birdie on eleven was just one of two recorded circles on those holes, respectively. Pietila is +9 on par four scoring, just one stroke back of the leader, and her 18 pars are just four back of the lead.

The 'Cats best round of the day came from Maddy Martens, who carded a score of +14 (86) for a two-day total of +27, sitting second on the team and 15th overall. Hailey Bolander sits 27th with a two-day total of +42, and Abbie Pietila rounds out the team scoring with her two-day total of +44.

Payton Dube moved up two spots with her two day total of +64, and Gabriella Moreau slid three spots with her two-day total of +65.

Olivia Brill (+50) and Abby Luke (+55) both moved up spots, and sit 31st and 32nd as individuals. Luke carded the only other Wildcat birdie on the day, ironically on the same hole as Pietila, the only other birdie recorded on the par-four eleventh on the field.
