Maggie Pietila Three Shots Back of First after Round One at Saddlebrook

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fl. - The NMU women's golf team officially opened its 2025 spring schedule, completing round one of three from the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff at the Saddlebrook Resort.

The 'Cats sit in sixth after 18 holes, turning in a score of +60. The field is led by No. 5 Marian (+22) and No. 32 Bethel (+37). The 5,967-yard par 72 course played an average round of 91.28, with the easiest hole only conceding three birdies and averaging a score of 4.67 (+0.68 SC).

As a team, the Wildcats were sixth in par three (+27) and par four (+74) scoring, fifth in par five scoring (+23), and recorded the third-most pars among the field with 35.

NMU is led by Maggie Pietila after round one, carding a round of +6 (78) and sits only three shots back of the lead. The top three spots were held by Marian golfers, the fourth from Bethel, the Pietila in fifth. Pietila started on hole 12, recorded 39 on both the front and back nine's, and recorded the only birdie among the team with her birdie on the 360-yard par four 7th, the hardest hole on the day and one of only two birdies recorded on it. Pietila led the field in pars (11), was sixth on the par threes (+1) and par fours (+4), and 7th on the par fives (+1).

Maddy Martens slotted in second on the 'Cats and 16th as an individual with her score of +13 (85). Martens started on the 10th hole, and posted a back nine 42 and front nine 43. Among the field, Martens was ninth on the par fours (+6).

Hailey Bolander (+18, 90) and Abbie Pietila (+23, 95) rounded out the team scoring, finishing 26th and 32nd individually through 18 holes. Gabriella Moreau (+29, 101) and Payton Dube (+35, 107) sit 36th and 39th, while both Abby Luke (+27, 99) and Olivia Brill (+29, 101) competing as individuals, sitting 35th and 36th, respectively.
