Women's Golf in 8th at Flyer Invite after Round One

WHEATON, IL. - The NMU women's golf team completed round one of the Flyers Spring Invite, sitting eighth of 12 teams after day one.

NMU shot an opening round 345 (+57) Drury was at the top of the leader board with their 319 (+31), followed closely by Davenport at 322 (+34) and Quincy at 323 (+35).

Maggie Pietila led the team into the clubhouse today, shooting an opening round 82 (+10), nine shots behind the leader Elaine Grant from Illinois-Springfield (73, +1). Maggie started her day on hole seven, and was five over on her first six holes. A birdie on the par-three 13th helped her see a span of being -1 thru a string of four holes before finding her way to the clubhouse nine holes later.

Abbie Pietila was next in team scoring, shooting a round of 87 (+15). Abbie began her day on the same hole as Maggie, just one group after, and shot a front nine 46 (+10) and back nine 41 (+5). Teammates Hailey Bolander (88, +16) and Payton Dube (88, +16) rounded out the team scoring, with Bolander recording one of the three Wildcat birdies with a three on the par-four 10th. Maddy Martens (89, +17) was fifth in team scoring for the 'Cats.

Gabriella Moreau competed as an individual, shooting a 95 (+23) on the evening while recording a birdie on the par three 17th, one of only three from the 'Cats today.
