PREVIEW: NMU Lacrosse Set to Entertain Lewis at Home

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan women's lacrosse team is back on their home turf for a match against the Lewis University Flyers this weekend. 

The Wildcats (4-2, 0-0 GLIAC) are coming off a three-game spring-break road trip, where they took home one win and their first two losses of the season. Northern defeated Missouri Western 18-6, but lost against Quincy (13-14) in OT and no. 5/6 Maryville (4-18). 

Looking to reignite a winning streak, the 'Cats will face Lewis University (3-2, 0-0 GLVC) on Saturday, March 15 at 12 p.m. Attendance is free, and fans can live stream the game on FloLive

Josie Lakosky - GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week
For the second time this season, sophomore forward Josie Lakosky has earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Over the 'Cats spring break road trip, Lakosky scored 12 goals and four assists for 16 points over three games. All 16 of her points came in the first two games of the road trip, a 13-14 OTL to Quincy and an 18-6 win over Missouri Western. 

Lakosky had a career-defining game against the Griffons, setting a program record for most points in a single game. Lakosky recorded seven goals and three assists for ten points, beating the previous mark of nine. The sophomore attacker also set career-records in goals and points in a single game, beating her previous record of six goals and seven points.

A Look at Lewis University
The Flyers were picked to finish sixth in the GLVC for the 2025 pre-season poll. Currently sitting at a 3-2 overall record (0-0 in conference), Lewis is coming off a 18-2 victory against Davis and Elkins College. Winning their first road game, the Flyers are 1-0 away and 2-2 at home. 

The Lewis offense is led by senior Catherine Roney (5-5--23) and senior Heidi Sweeney (5-5--22). Roney had two goals and four assists in their last match against Davis and Elkins, while Sweeney added four goals and two assists to the game, accumulating eight goals for the Flyers in their past two games. Starting sophomore goalkeeper Myah Templeton has a 46.4% save percentage with a 7.40 goals against average. 

The Wildcats hold a 5-0 record all-time against the Flyers, as Northern surged past Lewis 14-11 last season. Both graduated seniors Minnie Bittell and Kaitlyn Bridger added the most points to the scoreboard, with Bittell scoring six and Bridger scoring three. An additional five different 'Cats found the back of the net, and current sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Esposito made seven saves.
