Leo Nolles Wins Bronze in 50 Freestyle at NCAA Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NMU men's swim and dive team concluded day two of competition from the 2025 NCAA Championship. 

Leo Nolles laid claim to the highlight of the day, claiming bronze and a first team All-America honor in the 50 freestyle. Nolles would then go on to anchor the second team All-America earning 200 medley relay team of Ian Rocheleau, Wyatt Dickman, William LaCount, and Nolles. 

Morning Sessions
Daniel Lopez Aponte swam in heat three of the 200 IM prelims, the second event of the morning and first men's event of the day. Aponte swam a time of 1:49.68 with splits of 23.87 (Fly), 27.99 (Back), 31.63 (Breast), and 26.19 (Free), finishing seventh in his heat and 36th overall, missing the cut to make the finals. 

The next event was the 50 free prelims, starting with Leo Nolles in heat three. Nolles flew in lane four, winning his heat with a time of 19.70 and finishing 6th overall, advancing to tonight's A finals and earning a first-team All-America honor. William LaCount swam two heats later in the fifth and final heat, finishing eighth in his heat and 39th overall with a time of 20.57, missing the cut for tonight's finals. 

Afternoon Sessions
In the 50 free finals, Nolles once again got off to a good start, posting splits of 9.42 and 10.12 en route to a finals time of 19.54 to claim bronze, finishing just .42 seconds behind first and .09 seconds out of second place. 

The Wildcat's evening was rounded out with the 200 yard medley relay team of Rocheleau, Dickman, LaCount, and Nolles finished sixth in their heat and 11th overall with their time of 1:26.58, earning them a second team All-America honor. Rocheleau led the way in the backstroke (22.82), Dickman in the breaststroke (23.85), LaCount in the butterfly (21.13), and Nolles in the freestyle (18.78).

  • 7:30 PM: 400 Medley Relay Timed Finals - Rocheleau, Dickman, LaCount, Nolles (9th)

Friday
  • 10 AM: 100 Breaststroke Prelims - Dickman (6th)
  • 5:30 PM: 100 Breaststroke Finals (if advanced from prelims)
  • 7:30 PM: 200 Freestyle Relay Timed Finals - LaCount, Fulconi, Khmara, Nolles (1st)

Saturday
  • 10 AM: 100 Freestyle Prelims - Nolles (1st) and LaCount (34th)
  • 10 AM: 200 Breaststroke Prelims - Dickman (10th)
  • 10 AM: Prelims for 1-Meter Diving
  • 6:10 PM: Finals for 100 Free / 200 Breast (if advanced from prelims)
  • 7:45 PM: 400 Freestyle Relay Timed Finals - LaCount, Fulconi, Khmara, Nolles (5th)
