Four Men's Soccer Student-Athletes earn All-GLIAC Recognition

Alessandro Scialanga, Luca Rosen, Asaf Kristal, and Ian Weimer all earn honors

MARQUETTE, Mich. -  Four Northern Michigan University men's soccer student-athletes have earned All-GLIAC recognition, as announced by the conference today. Alessandro Scialanga, Luca Rosen, Asaf Kristal, and Ian Weimer all earned recognition.

Senior captain and a heartbeat of the Wildcat defense, Alessandro Scialanga has earned All-GLIAC First Team Defender recognition. A native of Sutri, Italy. Scialanga played the full ninety minutes in every match before picking up an injury in the first 11 minutes at Roosevelt at the end of September. The defender made a miraculous recovery, and after giving six minutes at the end of a match on the road to test his fitness, the captain came back swinging, not playing less than 84 minutes the rest of the season, including the full 110 minutes in Sunday's PK thriller. On top of everything on the defensive side of the ball and being the main-man on set pieces, Scialanga has contributed a goal and three assists, including a pair of helpers in the GLIAC Quarterfinals this past Sunday.

An instant impact maker for the Wildcats, Luca Rosen joined the Wildcats from Northeast Community College ahead of the 2025 campaign. A native of London, England, the junior had a slow start to the season, but would find his form during conference play. In 12 conference matches, Rosen paced the GLIAC in almost every major statistical category, including goals (9), game-winning goals (4), points (19), shots (68), and shots on goal (27), en route to earning an All-GLIAC First Team 'At-Large' recognition. The striker earned GLIAC Forward of the Week on two separate occasions, most of any forward in the GLIAC this season.

Another instant impact maker for the Green and Gold is goalkeeper Asaf Kristal. The redshirt-junior from Tel Aviv, Israel took over the reigns in his first season in a Wildcat uniform, where he has smashed NMU single-season goalkeeper records in saves, shutouts, wins, and is en-route to breaking single-season records for minutes played, SV%, and GAA. Kristal earns an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention after leading the GLIAC in shutouts, saves, saves per game, and second in both goals against and GAA. Kristal earned a GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor one time this season, after shutting out and handing the then #17 SVSU Cardinals its first loss of the season before posting a consecutive double-digit save effort.

An inspiring success story from the 2025 campaign, Ian Weimer exploded onto the scene for the Wildcats, becoming one of the teams impact players and earning an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. After playing no more than 23 minutes in a game in NMUs first five matches and 53 minutes in the sixth, the Marietta, Ohio native earned himself an elevated roll, and would only dip below at least 71 minutes on two separate occasions to end the season. Weimer is smashing career bests from a season ago, and is currently second on the team in goals (4), game-winning goals (2), and points (9). Weimer earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week in the final week of conference play, capping off the regular season with a three-game goal streak with two game-winning goals in that frame.

After the positive result in the program's first GLIAC postseason match on the outdoor field, thanks to the help of a community, the 'Cats are now onto the GLIAC Semifinals for just the second time in program history. NMU is on the road to Saginaw to play the #2 seeded Roosevelt Lakers in a neutral-site GLIAC semifinal match. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. on Friday, November 14, from the Robbert C. Braddock Field on the campus of Saginaw Valley.
