MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan women's wrestling team is ready to begin a new season this weekend as they will travel to Stevens Point, Wisconsin, for the Pointer Open hosted by UW-Stevens Point. The meet will begin at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, November 1.
Under first-year head coach
Adam Wilson, the Green and Gold enter 2025-26 ranked No. 22 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll. NMU will also be a part of the first year of women's wrestling in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), where the team is slotted in at fifth in the preseason poll.
Individually,
Alissa Caltagirone is ranked fifth nationally at 145 and second in Region 4. Other regional rankings include
Zhivanna Magdaleno fifth at 117,
Keaton Hood third at 138,
Sophia Bassino fourth at 160, and
Abbie Miles third at 207.

In 2024-25, the team placed third at regionals, and three individuals competed at the National Championships. Seven student-athletes earned Scholar All-America honors, and
Yu Sakamoto won the regional title and took third nationally for the best finish in program history.
