MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 11 Northern Michigan women's wrestling team is ready for its third competition of the season this weekend as it will take part in the 8 Women Battle in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on Saturday, November 22. The competition will get underway at 11 a.m. ET.
Under first-year head coach
Adam Wilson, the Green and Gold started the 2025-26 season ranked No. 22 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll, but have moved up to No. 11 in just a few weeks following two solid tournament performances.
Individually,
Emma Heslin ranks seventh nationally at 103,
Alissa Caltagirone is sixth at 145,
Sophia Bassino is 10th at 160, and
Abbie Miles is seventh at 180.

Last Time Out
Northern Michigan turned in a strong showing at the Adrian Open on November 9, placing ninth out of 40 teams with 134.5 points. The Wildcats surged into the top 10 behind runner-up finishes from
Clarissa Wangen at 180 pounds and
Emma Heslin at 103. NMU totaled a 31-16 record on the day and added four more top-five placers, including third-place efforts from
Alyssa Keane (138) and
Jamie Cook (124).
Abbie Miles (180) took fourth after rattling off five straight wins following an opening loss, while
Sophia Bassino (160) claimed fifth with a 4-2 outing.
Wangen dominated her bracket with four wins on her way to the title bout, while Heslin secured three decision victories before falling in the final. Cook led all Wildcats with six wins, including four by fall, and Keane added a pair of tech falls and a pin in her 3-1 run. NMU also saw placement from
Zhivanna Magdaleno, who finished seventh at 117, while
Keaton Hood,
Samantha Chaon, and
Mickaela Keane added valuable matches.
