Football
  • 42-21 win over Roosevelt
The Northern Michigan football team got back in the win column in historic fashion on Saturday afternoon, rushing for a program-record 538 yards in a dominant 42-21 victory over the Roosevelt Lakers.

The Wildcats' offense was firing on all cylinders from the opening kick, showcasing its will for physicality, execution, and complete control on the ground. The 538-yard total crushed the previous program mark of 477, set 66 years ago in 1959 against UW-Milwaukee, not only cementing this performance as one of the most prolific rushing efforts in NMU football history, but also one of the most impressive all-around efforts.

At the backbone of the victory was one of the most dominant displays by a running back duo in the history of college football. For just the seventh time in Division II, two running backs from the same team went over 200 yards, with Noah Dobert totaling 243 yards and three touchdowns and Jahi Wood adding 233 yards and two scores. The pair combined for five of Northern's six touchdowns, running the ball an incredible 68 times between them. Their production now ranks eighth and ninth among all single-game rushing totals in Division II this season.

Hockey - vs No. 19/20 Colorado College
  • Friday, 2-1 OT loss
  • Saturday, 5-2 loss
The Northern Michigan hockey team held a 1-0 lead halfway through the third period on Friday night at the Berry Events Center, but a late goal and another in overtime from the No. 19/20 Colorado College Tigers gave them the 2-1 edge over the Wildcats. Getting his second straight start in net, freshman goaltender Oliver Auyeung-Ashton was stellar, turning aside 43 of the 45 shots he faced for a .956 save percentage. The native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, now holds a 1.70 GAA and .960 SV% in his three appearances this season. Medrick Bolduc picked up the lone tally for Northern in the first period with 8:45 to play, his second goal of the season, assisted by Jakub Altrichter. The Tigers evened the score with 9:25 left in the third on a goal from Klavs Veinbergs, with Seth Constance and Ryan Koering earning the assists. Koering then notched the game-winner in overtime, going end-to-end and burying his own rebound in front of the net.

The Wildcats got first career goals from Mathew Ward and Tobias Pitka on Saturday, with Ward also tacking on an assist, but points from 11 different Tigers proved too much to overcome. Northern totaled 31 shots on goal, their second-best output of the season, while Colorado College had 34. The Wildcats were active and physical throughout the night, blocking 17 shots, led by Michael Burchill with five. Jakub Altrichter continued to be one of the best passers in the game, adding an assist on Ward's goal for his fourth helper of the season. He now has 20 assists in 36 career games. Kyle Bettens also added an assist, his first point as a Wildcat.

Volleyball - Midwest Crossover
  • Friday, 0-3 loss to Findlay
  • Friday, 0-3 loss to Quincy
  • Saturday, 3-0 win over Ashland
The Wildcats dropped their opener to Findlay in three (20-25, 17-25, 14-25) before returning to the court later in the day and falling to Quincy (19-25, 12-25, 22-25).

Freshman Kaylie McIntosh paced NMU in both matches with nine and ten kills, respectively. McKenzie Gruner added 15 total kills on the day along with four blocks, while Allie Barlow dished out 48 assists across the two contests.

The team ended the Midwest Region Crossover in dominant fashion, earning a sweep over the Ashland Eagles 25-19, 25-21, and 25-13, with the match only lasting just over an hour in total time.  Northern was clicking in all facets of the game. Leading the efforts was Madison York, who recorded a career-high 15 kills on a .481 attack percentage. She led NMU in kills in each frame with five in the first, six in the second, and four more in the final. York sparked a .285 team hitting percentage, the highest for the 'Cats this season.

Women's Soccer
  • Friday, 0-4 loss to Saginaw Valley
  • Sunday, 0-1 loss to Davenport
On Friday, The Cardinals opened the scoring in the 28th minute after Abby Ellis popped the ball nearly straight up into the air for it to fall just between Jillian Thompson and the crossbar. SVSU would then tack on three more scores in the second half with strong counterattacks. The Wildcats were able to earn two more corner kick opportunities in the match by a margin of 6-4, but they were outshot by a margin of 17-10, including a 10-1 difference in shots on target.

The team fell on the road to the Davenport Panthers by a narrow margin of 1-0 on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Grand Rapids on Sunday. The Wildcats were dominant statistically throughout the game, outshooting the Panthers 18-3, including an 8-2 difference in shots on goal, but the play of DU goaltender Elizabeth Wolter proved to be the difference, saving all eight shots that she faced to maintain the clean sheet. NMU also managed to earn eight corner kick opportunities while the Panthers had none on the day.

Men's Soccer
  • Friday, 1-3 loss to Davenport
  • Sunday, 0-3 loss to Saginaw Valley
The Wildcats out shot the Panthers 19-15 over the course of the match on Friday, but Davenport was able to put one more ball on target than NMU (9-8). Davenport was able to take control of the match in the opening half, pushing ahead to a 3-0 lead going into the break. Triston Nelson was able to get the Wildcats on the board in the second half with his first goal of the season in the 81st minute, but it would ultimately not be enough as the Panthers held on for the 3-1 victory.

The Cardinals outshot the Wildcats 24-4 on the Sunday, including a 12-0 difference in shots on goal. Despite the pressure, NMU goaltender Asaf Kristal recorded eight saves. Evan Baker headed in the opening goal in the 35th minute after a crossing pass from Liam Zimmerman to put SVSU ahead 1-0 heading into the halftime break. The Cardinals would then tack on two more late in the game to secure the 3-0 victory and avenge their recent loss to the Wildcats just nine days prior.
