MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan cross country team is set to race at the Husky Invitational hosted by Michigan Tech on Friday, October 17, at 4:15 p.m. With the GLIAC Championships next weekend, several of the top NMU runners will sit this one out in preparation for the postseason.

Nationally Ranked
NMU is ranked in the USTFCCCA National Poll, entering this weekend at No. 15.
Headlined by two-time GLIAC Athlete of the Week
Madi Szymanski, the Green and Gold have finished in the top four of all four meets so far this season. Szymanski has led NMU in each race, finishing fifth at both the Phoenix Open and Roy Griak Invite, followed by a ninth-place finish at the Lucian Rosa Invite, and third at the Royals Challenge.
Last Time Out
The No. 16 Wildcats made a statement at the Royals Challenge in Charlotte, racing to a first-place finish out of 18 teams. The Wildcats edged No. 19 Catawba, 39-47, in a tightly contested meet loaded with nationally ranked programs.
In their only 5K race of the season,
Madi Szymanski led the charge with a third-place finish in 17:18.7, breaking a 25-year-old program record and topping her previous personal best by more than a minute. Freshman standout
Ashley Choponis followed close behind in fourth (17:26.3), while
Emma Sweeney took ninth (17:40.3) with a two-minute PR.
Beverly Harper (13th) and
Sophia Potter (15th) rounded out NMU's scoring five, all under 18 minutes, as the Wildcats became the only team in the field to achieve that mark, sealing another dominant team performance.
