PREVIEW: Men's Swim and Dive at Home to Open 25/26 Campaign

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NMU men's swim and dive team is at home to officially open the 25/26 campaign, welcoming GLIAC foes St. Cloud, Davenport, and Lake Superior State.

The Wildcats host two sessions on Friday, October 3, with the first at 10 a.m. and second at 4:30 p.m., followed by one session at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 4 from the PEIF Pool. Admittance is free to the public.

The men are coming off a successful NCAA Championships and a third place finish at the GLIAC Championships, and are welcoming back the GLIAC Male Swimmer of the Year, Leo Nolles. A Uruguay international, Nolles earned individual silver and bronze medals in the 50 and 100 free, and anchored the silver medal 200 free relay team that missed gold by 0.03 seconds at the NCAA Championships. Nolles won five gold and seven total medals at the GLIAC Championships, as well as earning a GLIAC Commissioners Award. Head coach Heidi Voigt also returns the rest of the silver-medal 200 free relay team in William LaCount, Daniel Khmara, and Gabriel Fulconi, and All-American's Tobie Stiles and Ian Rocheleau.

There are five freshmen on the men's roster, some of whom have already stood out: Matteo Ballardin claimed first place in the 200 fly, and Yousseh Nahali was less than one second behind Nolles in the 50 free at the Green & Gold intra squad scrimmage.

The Huskies are coming off of a 24/25 season that saw the team earn its highest-ever finish at the NCAA Championships, finishing eighth place and laying claim to 12 All-America performances. The team finished fourth at the GLIAC Championships, and welcome back 200 fly gold medalist Lance Godard.

The Panthers finished sixth at the GLIAC Championships and welcome back Owen Stender and Matthew Gauck, both of whom competed at last season's NCAA Championships. Stender tied for second place in the 200 breast, and Gauck set a school record in the 3-meter diving at the GLIAC Championships last season.

The Lakers, entering their second season as a program, just hired Tim O'Neil as the next Director of Intercollegiate Swimming and Aquatics over the summer. O'Neill comes to LSSU after guiding Lewis University to some best finishes in program history, including 42 NCAA qualifying times and 10 school records in his first season as head coach.

Hear from Heidi Voigt
"We have three teams at home this weekend, the most teams we've had at a home event since I've been here... it's always fun for us to race at home, [The student-athletes] have pride in being at our pool."
