Women Sweep Podium, Heathman Claims Silver in Giant Slalom

Trio of Springer, Olli, and Kirk claim one through three in Giant Slalom

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NMU Alpine Ski Team wrapped up competition at Marquette Mountain this weekend with the Giant Slalom, led by the women's team sweeping the podium.

Tommie Springer, Reagan Olli, and Ainsley Kirk claimed gold, silver, and bronze medals for the women, and Reed Heathman claimed silver for the men with both Will Blackmer and Aaron Grzelak in fourth and fifth. 

The women finished first with six team points, and the men claimed 11 team points.

Men's Results
Heathman (32.56, 28.26 - 1:00.82) was the lone 'Cat on the podium for the men, finishing T2 with Graham Barwick and .01 seconds away from first place (1:00.81). Heathman was sixth after his first run before moving up four spots with his second run being tied for the fastest second result .

Will Blackmer (32.47, 28.74 - 1:01.21) and Aaron Grzelak (32.29, 29.11 - 1:01.40) were next for the 'Cats in fourth and fifth, followed by Andrew Truman (33.32, 28.42 - 1:01.74) rounding out the top-10 with his 10th place finish.

Mitchell Forsberg (1:02.14) finished 12th, Connor Abraham (1:02.77) and Brad Seaborg (1:02.79) finished 15th and 16th, Colin Dehart (1:02.87) placed 19th, and Nathan Dehart DNF'd after posting a time of 33.70 in run one.

Women's Results
Springer (29.97, 32.59 - 1:02.56) claimed gold after posting the fastest times in both runs, outing teammate Olli by just over a second. 

Olli (30.82, 33.09 - 1:03.91) jumped up two spots thanks to her second run time of 33.09, the second-fastest result in run two. 

Kirk (30.66, 33.59 - 1:04.25) rounded out the podium, securing the podium sweep for the 'Cats.

Julia Greene (1:06.04) and Jacey Johnson (1:06.10) placed 12th and 13th, followed by Erin Hoelzel (1:06.66) in 19th, rounded out with Maya Bubolz (1:13.82) finishing 52nd. Both Ella Wichert and Emily Creek DNF their second runs, and Georgette Sake and Cassidey Whitener DNF their first run.
