LEMONT, Ill. - The NMU women's golf team completed round one in Illinois at the Flyers Fall Intercollegiate from the Ravines course. After the first round, the Wildcats sit in 9th place out of 10 teams.
"Tough day on some tough courses," said head coach
Ben Johnson, as both the women's and men's teams are competing in the same event on different courses at the Cog Hill Country Club. "We'll come back prepared to make a leap tomorrow."
Course #2 at the Cog Hill GCC is The Ravines, which averaged a score of 86.49 through 55 rounds recorded. The Wildcats posted a team score of +59 (347), one stroke behind Lake Superior State and four ahead of Parkside.
Hailey Bolander leads the Cats' and is 16th as an individual after a solid performance with a score of 75 (+7), demonstrating solid play throughout her round. Starting on hole 16, Hailey was two over her first three holes before reaching the first, where she then shot one-under through six holes. She recorded a front nine score of 39 and a 41 on the back nine, including two birdies.
Abbie Pietila finished with an 87 (+15), placing her in 33rd individually. Pietila posted a 43 on the front nine and a 44 on the back with six pars.
Maddy Martens carded an 89 (+17), earning her a spot at 37th. Starting on the 14th, Martens carded a 44 on the front and 45 on the back with five pars
Maggie Pietila rounded out the 'Cats team scoring, finishing with a 91 (+19). She started strong with a 43 on the front nine but struggled on the back, which resulted in a score of 48.
Payton Dube recorded a 94 (+22), posting a 43 on the front nine but encountering difficulties on the back with a score of 51.
Gabriella Moreau, competing as an individual, ended the day in 53rd.
