GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Men's Swim and Dive team hit the road for the annual Calvin College Invitational on Thursday, finishing second of six teams after the three-day event.
On day one, the men's 200-yard Freestyle Relay team of
William LaCount,
Gabriel Fulconi,
Daniel Khmara, and
Leo Nolles set a school record with their time of 1:20.00, which is also an NCAA cut.
Another NCAA cut was made on day two for the 200-yard Medley Relay, along with a new team record.
Day two also had
Wyatt Dickman tying the team record for the 100-yard Breaststroke.
Day three saw more outstanding times, highlighted by the men's 400 Free Relay team breaking an NMU team record and earning an NCAA cut.
Final Scores
Overall, the team placed second with 1,645.5 points, leaving a 602.5-point margin between them and first place Grand Valley State. The Calvin University team fell close behind with an overall score of 1267.5.
Day Three Highlights
The Wildcats shone on their final day at the invite, with one of the first events being the 200-yard Backstroke.
Erikas Kapocius was a key player with his fourth-place finish at 1:47.83.
A 100-yard Freestyle followed the backstroke, leading
Leo Nolles and
Jef Leroux to find top-five placements with second and fifth. Their respective times were 44.14 and 44.65.
Wyatt Dickman continued to show his worth in the 200-yard Breaststroke after he took fifth in only 1:58.49.
The 1-meter dive rounded out the diving events for the invite, and
Tobie Stiles wasn't afraid to impress the crowd. He added another first-place finish to his record along with a score of 453.60.
As the invite came to a close, the 'Cats took the water one last time for the 400-yard Freestyle Relay. Leroux,
William LaCount,
Gabriel Fulconi, and
Leo Nolles were able to earn a second-place title with a time of 2:56.76
Day Two Highlights
Heading into day two, the Wildcats first hit the pool for the 200-yard Medley Relay. Auger, Dickman, Lund, and Nolles earned first place, an NCAA cut, and a new team record with their time of 1:27.83.
Nolles made a great effort in the 100-yard Butterfly, coming out of the event with fifth place at 48.38.
Moving into the 400-yard IM, Lopez-Aponte and
Erikas Kapocius took the top two spots on the leaderboard with their times of 3:53.85 and 3:57.90.
Jef Leroux and Fulconi were worked into the 200-yard Freestyle where they finalized their standings for fourth and fifth within .46 seconds of each other.
As the teams shifted into the 100-yard events,
Wyatt Dickman took the cake for the Breaststroke with his first-place finish of 53.86, while
Andrew Tease was nearby in fifth at 56.09. The Backstroke saw Auger's return with sixth place at 49.11.
The 3-meter dive concluded the events of the day, allowing
Tobie Stiles and
Diego Carrillo to take the diving board, where they earned second and fifth place, respectively, with scores of 459.30 and 371.70.
Day One Highlights
Kicking off the invite was the 200-yard Freestyle Relay with
William LaCount,
Gabriel Fulconi,
Daniel Khmara, and
Leo Nolles being atop the podium with a time of 1:20.00. Group B managed to find their way into fifth place with
Jef Leroux,
Max Swiatkowski, Ale Rosatelli, and
Martin Wolmarans coming out of the water at 1:22.38.
The 500-yard Freestyle had freshman
Wyatt Dickman earning a third-place finish with a time of 4:32.93.
Daniel Lopez-Aponte and
Gabriel Fulconi pushed it into high gear for the 200-yard IM, placing third and fourth with times of 1:49.97 and 1:50.01.
A first and fourth-place finish was made by Nolles and LaCount in the 50-yard Freestyle, only .39 seconds apart at 19.87 and 20.26.
In the final event of the evening, the 400-yard Medley Relay,
Thibault Auger, Dickman,
Ryan Lund, and LaCount found fourth at 3:15.02.
