BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Northern Michigan volleyball team fell in straight sets to Ferris State 12-25, 16-25, and 11-25 on Saturday to conclude regular season play.
The Wildcats are the No. 5 seed with the GLIAC Quarterfinals coming on Wednesday. The 'Cats will travel to rival Michigan Tech who is the No. 4 seed. The Wildcats finished an even 9-9 in GLIAC play.Â
Jacqueline Smith led NMU with nine kills,
Lauren Van Remortel had 20 assists,
Caylie Barlage recorded 10 digs, and
Meghan Meyer contributed a pair of blocks. Â
Northern struggled in the first set against the No. 20 Bulldogs. The Wildcats kept it close early on, tied 5-5, but FSU scored the next five. Leading 12-9, Ferris scored 13 of the final 16 points to take the first set win handily.Â
Northern faced a 15-8 deficit in set two, but battled back to make it 20-16 after an
Evynn Layshock kill was part of a three-point Wildcat run. The Bulldogs responded, scroing the final five points of the set and going up 2-0 with the 25th point coming from a service ace.Â
The Green and Gold fell behind 5-0 in the third, leading to a timeout from the sideline. The high-octane Bulldog squad pushed it to 10-1, and ultimately took the final set 25-11 for the three-set sweep over the Wildcats.Â

The Wildcats will open up GLIAC Tournament play with a quarterfinal matchup at Michigan Tech on Wednesday, November 15. It will be a battle between the No. 4 and No. 5 seed in the conference.Â
