Wildcats put on offensive display in win over William Jewell

The 'Cats dominate the glass en route to double-digit win

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Wildcats rounded out the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge with an 83-64 win against the William Jewell Cardinals. 

Abi Fraza led the way for the 'Cats, scoring a season-high 19 points with four rebounds. Mackenzie Holzwart was next for the 'Cats with 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Makaylee Kuhn was next with 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

The 'Cats shot 30-71 (42.3%) from the field and 8-24 (33.3%) from the three-point arc along with hitting 15 of 17 free throw attempts. The 'Cats dominated the board, outrebounding the Cardinals 40-27 with 12 offensive boards to the Cardinals' 27

The 'Cats now improve to 2-0 overall on the young season.

How It Happened
1st Quarter

The 'Cats ended the first quarter down by two points, a 16-14 deficit. Both teams shot relatively the same, as the 'Cats went 6-18 from the field and the Cardinals went 3-16 from the floor. Where the scoring discrepancy happens is the Cardinals hit three three-point shots to the 'Cats one, going 33.3% compared to 20% from beyond the arc. 

The 'Cats did really well rebounding, out-boarding the Cardinals 12-8 with three offensive rebounds to the Cardinal's none.

2nd Quarter
The 'Cats produced a much more productive second quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 22-15 to take a 36-31 lead into halftime. The 'Cats shot 8-18 from the field compared to the Cardinals' 5-12 and shot 3-10 from beyond the arc to the Cardinals' 2-7 shooting. The 'Cats forced five Cardinal turnovers, scoring 10 points from those.

The 'Cats continued to dominate the glass, out-boarding the Cardinals 7-4 with two offensive boards to none. The 'Cats spent nine minutes of playing time with the lead in the second, with its largest lead being seven points.

3rd Quarter
The 'Cats third quarter was just as hot as the last, outscoring the Cardinals 22-17 with 8-20 shooting to 6-13 shooting from the Cardinals. The glasswork continued to be a focal point for the 'Cats, out-boarding the Cardinals 12-8 with five more offensive boards to the Cardinals one.

The 'Cats never trailed in the third quarter, leading all 10 minutes, with the largest lead coming in the final second of the quarter. CJ Romero hit a buzzer-beater three-pointer to extend the 'Cats lead to 10 going into the final frame.

4th Quarter
The best quarter for the 'Cats came in the final 10 minutes, as they outscored the Cardinals 25-16 in the final frame. The 'Cats were clinical shooting, going 8-15 (53.3%) from the field and 3-5 (60%) from beyond the arc.
