WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. - The Northern Michigan University men's basketball team opened up the JustAgame Crossover in the Wisconsin Dells with an 85-75 win over Upper Iowa.
Dylan Kuehl led the way for the 'Cats with a 19-point 13-rebound double-double, followed by
Max Weisbrod with 17 points and five assists and
Sam Schultz with 14 points and nine assists.
Brian Parzych tied the Wildcat lead in assists on the day with five along with Weisbrod.
Six of the seven scoring Wildcats recorded 10-plus points. As a team, the Wildcats went 28-56 from the field, a smooth 50.0% shooting, and a cool 30.8% from the arc. The 'Cats hit 25 of a possible 37 free throw attempts.
How It Happened
1st Half
The 'Cats started hot, jumping out to a 17-7 lead early in the half, led by six points each from
Dylan Kuehl and
Sam Schultz.
Upper Iowa clawed back within four before
Dylan Kuehl hit double figures and
Brian Parzych earned his first bucket. A
Riley Brooks triple extended the lead back to eight.
The half would end 36-28 in favor of the Wildcats.
Dylan Kuehl led the way with 10 points, followed by
Sam Schultz with six. The 'Cats shot 16/34 (47.1%) from the field but struggled from beyond the arc (1-6, 16.7%). The 'Cats outrebounded the Peacocks 21-16, including six offensive boards, and led for the near entirety of the first half (19 minutes and 24 seconds - 97.0%).
2nd Half
The 'Cats jumped out to a 15-point lead five minutes into the half, starting with both Schultz and Weisbrod eclipsing 10 points, then capped off by a
Riley Brooks jumper.
The Peacocks got within six, but free throws from three 'Cats and a three-pointer from Brooks extended the lead back to 10.
Max Weisbrod would go on to ice the game for the 'Cats, hitting his last five of six free throw attempts in the final minute.
The 'Cats would hold on to a 10-point lead to finish, winning by a score of 85-75.
