MARQUETTE, Mich.- The Wildcats swim and dive team continued on with its opening season weekend on Saturday in the PEIF Pool where they took on the St. Cloud Huskies and Davenport University Panthers.
A pool record was broken for the 50-yard Freestyle by
Leo Nolles with a time of 20.49.
Final Scores
Overall, the Wildcats were victorious against both teams with a score of 326.50-140.50 against Davenport and 281-199 against St. Cloud.
The Men came out of the meet with victories against both teams, finalizing the score against Davenport with 170-70 and St. Cloud with 128-114.
The Women Wildcats were in the same boat, ending the meet with a score of 156.50-70.50 against Davenport and 153-85 against St. Cloud.
Highlights
The 400-yard Medley Relay kicked off the meet with
Camilla Carbone,
Zoe DeKievit, Txell Font-Cantarero, and
Alyssa Bloser bringing home a first place win with a time of 3:55.16. Following behind was NMU's Group B team which consisted of
Mia Strazny, Evelyn DeCarlo,
Sophia Moore, and
Olivia Haerr.
The Men were able to take second and fourth place with times of 3:27.37 and 3:32.35, respectively. The second place team included
Thibault Auger,
Wyatt Dickman,
Ryan Lund, and Ale Rosatelli, while the fourth place team had
Ian Rocheleau,
Andrew Tease,
Hudson Lowery, and Daniel Lopez-Aponte.
Events three and four marked the 1650-yard Freestyle, which had freshmen
Anika Wright and
Annika Geyer taking the reins with their first and second place finishes.
Patrick Andrews took home fourth place for the Men with a time of 17:23.89.
With the 200-yard Freestyle following, freshman
Carlotta Santi was able to take home the gold for the first time in her collegiate career with a time of 1:55.83. Fourth and fifth place finishers were veterans
Ella Houwers and
Caitlin Aarseth, with respective times of 2:00.25 and 2:00.98.
The men's team claimed second and fifth place with those finishes made by
Daniel Khmara and Daniel Lopez-Aponte. Khmara finished the event with a time of 1:44.04 and Lopez-Aponte finished with 1:46.45.
Becca Burrows,
Joanne Arbic, Haerr, and Hannig made up four out of the top five in the 50-yard Freestyle, with Davenport taking third place.
Leo Nolles took first place for the men's team while also breaking the pool record, while
William LaCount and
Martin Wolmarans followed behind in second and third places.
The 200-yard IM saw DeKievit and Font-Cantarero claiming second and third place with times of 2:12.81 and 2:14.47.
Wyatt Dickman,
Caleb Rice, and
Kyle Griswold took second, fourth, and fifth places for the men with their times ranging between 2:00.00 and 2:02.00.
The first dive of the meet was the Women's 3-meter which had
Abbie Harned taking home yet another first place finish and accumulating 227 points, while
Lauren Plockmeyer and
Madison Germain fell into fourth and fifth place. Following the event was the Men's 1-meter dive where
Tobie Stiles and
Alex Oestreich placed second and third with scores of 440.40 and 427.10.
Switching over to the 200-yard Butterfly, Font-Cantarero, Geyer, Santi, and Moore placed in the top five, with Davenport claiming second. The Men had Javier Pena-Reyes and Lowery take third and fourth, with times of 1:56.84 and 1:58.26.
The 100-yard Freestyle saw Bloser bring home the gold and
Donna Hannig coming in at fourth. Nolles and LaCount were placed at the top of the board with times of 45.70 and 47.47.
Strazny took first in the 200-yard Backstroke while Auger and
Ian Rocheleau found themselves in second and fourth place with respective times of 1:54.36 and 1:56.51.
The 500-yard Freestyle saw Wright coming out on top for the second meet in a row, making her the only Woman Wildcat to place in the top five for this event. As for the Men's team, Lopez-Aponte took home first with his time of 4:48.34 and Rosatelli placed third at 4:51.78.
Abbie Harned returned to the diving board for the 1-Meter dive, leading her to make her way into second place with a solid score of 236.65. Harned was the only Woman Wildcat to place for this event.
The Men's 3-Meter Dive found freshman
Alex Oestreich taking the gold with his score of 275.40. Veteran
Tobie Stiles claimed the second place finish with his score of 267.25.
For the second day in a row, DeKievit swam phenomenally and earned gold in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:24.56. Similar to DeKievit, Dickman placed first again with a time of 2:08.27, with Tease claiming fourth at 2:11.00 and Nick Metzler in fifth with 2:12.46.
Finalizing the meet was the 200-yard Freestyle Relay where the Women's team was rewarded with first place. Bloser, Burrows, Arbic, and Haerr made up the team. The Men's team earned a second place and fourth place finish with LaCount, Wolmarans, Rosatelli, and Nolles making up the second place team and the fifth place team consisting of Khmara, Lowery, Pena-Reyes, and Lund.
