MARQUETTE, Mich.- The Wildcats swim and dive team opened the season on Friday in the PEIF Pool where they took on the St. Cloud Huskies and Davenport University Panthers.
Final Scores
Overall, the Men came out of the meet with a loss against St. Cloud (122-121), but managed to find a win against Davenport (187-53).
The Women Wildcats walked away with victories against both teams, 166-74 in the meet with St. Cloud and 170-65 against Davenport.
Highlights
The 200-yard Medley Relay kicked off the season opener with
Camilla Carbone,
Zoe DeKievit, Txell Font-Cantarero, and
Becca Burrows earning a first place win with a time of 1:46.63. Close behind was another NMU team which consisted of
Mia Strazny, Evelyn DeCarlo,
Sophia Moore, and
Alyssa Bloser.
The Men were able to take second and fourth place with times of 1:32.21 and 1:34.94, respectively. The second place team included
Leo Nolles,
Wyatt Dickman,
Ryan Lund, and
William LaCount, while the fourth place team had
Thibault Auger,
Andrew Tease,
Hudson Lowery, and
Martin Wolmarans.
Events three and four were all about the 1000-yard Freestyle which had Font-Cantarero and
Carlotta Santi taking the pool by storm with their first and second place finishes.
Logan Robillard and
Patrick Andrews took home third and fifth place for the Men.
With the 200-yard Freestyle following, freshman
Annika Geyer was able to take home the gold for her first collegiate meet with a time of 1:56.24. Close behind in fourth and fifth were junior
Donna Hannig and freshman Hermione Roe, with respective times of 1:59.57 and 1:59.66.
The men's team claimed second through fourth place with those finishes made by Dickman,
Daniel Khmara, and Ale Rosatelli. Each falling between the time range of 1:44.00 and 1:45.00.
Veterans Bloser,
Joanne Arbic, and Haerr made waves in the 50-yard Freestyle as they earned first through third place. LaCount took first place for the men's team, and Wolmarans was able to make it into the top five with his fourth place finish.
Anika Wright's first meet was a success when she claimed first place in the 400-yard IM, with
Ella Houwers earning third place with a time of 4:42.98. Daniel Lopez-Aponte and Javier Pena-Reyes earned first and second for the men, and
Kyle Griswold followed not too far behind with fifth place.
The first dive of the meet was the Women's 3-meter which had
Abbie Harned taking home the gold and accumulating a total of 223.45 points. Following the event was the Men's 1-meter dive where
Tobie Stiles,
Alex Oestreich, and
Ryan Foucault made up the top three with scores of 273.50, 247.55, and 224.05, respectively.
Switching over to the 100-yard events, the first was the Butterfly. Font-Cantarero, DeKievit, and Moore earned the top three finishes and
Ryan Lund landed his own first place finish. The 100-yard Freestyle had Burrows and Haerr encompassing the top two spots with
Anna Karubas finding herself in fourth. Nolles was placed at the top with his time of 45.65 and Rosatelli earned his way into the top five with a time of 48.19.
Carbone and Strazny took first and third place in the 100-yard Backstroke while Auger and
Ian Rocheleau seemed to be playing opposites with their second and fourth place finishes.
The 500-yard Freestyle saw Wright coming out on top, making her the only Woman Wildcat to place in the top five for this event. As for the Men's team, Khmara took home second place with his time of 4:51.95 and Pena-Reyes placed fifth at 4:55.54.
Along with Harned's first place finish in the 1-Meter Dive (6 dives), she was also able to break her personal record for it and replace it with a new score of 386.65.
Lauren Plockmeyer made her way into the top five, taking fourth place, with a score of 353.00.
The Men's 3-Meter Dive proved that
Tobie Stiles is still in it to win it with his first place finish, scoring 269.20. Oestreich followed close behind in fourth with a score of 224.60.
DeKievit leaped back into the water for the 100-yard Breaststroke and showed her worth, earning her gold in the event with a time of 1:06.84. Similar to DeKievit, Dickman also placed first with a time of 57.39, and Tease claimed fourth at 59.17.
To end the day was the 400-yard Freestyle Relay where the Women's and Men's teams were rewarded with first place. Bloser, Hannig, Burrows, and Haerr made up Group A for the Women, and Rosatelli, LaCount, Khmara, and Nolles made up Group A for the Men.
