Wildcats Hit Top Marks, Win Meet

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.- The Northern Michigan University men's and women's swim and dive team hit the road this weekend where they claimed victory across the board against Saginaw Valley State University and University of Findlay. 

This meet had several names being added to the Division II national rankings for top times. Gabriel Fulconi is first in the 200-yard IM, Camilla Carbone is second in the 100-yard Backstroke, NMU's Men's 400-yard Freestyle Relay team marks second, Leo Nolles takes third in the Men's 100-yard Freestyle, Zoe DeKievit is third in the 100-yard Breaststroke, and Mia Strazny is sixth in the 100-yard Backstroke.

Along with the national rankings were Wildcats who made it on the list of NCAA B Times. Anika Wright for 1000-yard Freestyle and 500-yard Freestyle, Leo Nolles for 50-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Freestyle, Gabriel Fulconi and Daniel Lopez-Apone for the 200-yard IM, Txell Font-Cantarero for the 100-yard Butterfly, Camilla Carbone for the 100-yard Backstroke, and Wyatt Dickman for the 500-yard Freestyle.

Final Scores
Overall, the Wildcats outscored both teams with 290-183 against the Findlay Oilers and 305.5-180.5 in the matchup against the Saginaw Valley Cardinals.

The Men came out of the meet with wins against both teams, with a large margin between them and Findlay at 140-96. The final score against Saginaw Valley was closer with a 134-109 margin.

The Women Wildcats walked away in the same boat as the men with victories against both teams, 150-87 in the meet with Findlay and 171.50-71.50 against Saginaw Valley.

Highlights
The 200-yard Medley Relay marked the start of the meet with Camilla Carbone, Zoe DeKievit, Txell Font-Cantarero, and Becca Burrows earning a second place title with a time of 1:45.00. The Men were able to take second as well, with Thibault Auger, Wyatt Dickman, Ryan Lund, and William LaCount finding a time of 1:29.02.

Events three and four tend to be all about the 1000-yard Freestyle, and that did not change for this meet. Anika Wright continued to prove herself strong early in the meet when she claimed first place at 10:17.78, and veteran Font-Cantarero came close behind in fourth. Patrick Andrews and Logan Robillard were able to make the board with sixth and seventh places for the Men.

The 200-yard Freestyle followed shortly after, showcasing freshman Carlotta Santi when she took second place while her fellow classmate, Annika Geyer, closed in on fifth.The men's team saw Daniel Khmara making it into the top five, with third place and a time of 1:41.28.

Veterans Haerr and Burrows made waves in the 50-yard Freestyle as they earned second and a tie for fourth place, respectively. Leo Nolles was back again for another first place run, ending up with a time of 20.09. Behind him was LaCount, who took third, and Martin Wolmarans, who found fourth.

A race in the 200-yard IM had DeKievit bringing home the gold with her time of 2:08.29, while Ella Houwers was close behind in fourth with 2:11.69. Freshman Gabriel Fulconi was on top in the event with Daniel Lopez-Aponte earning second, and Erikas Kapocius placing fourth.

The first dive of the meet was the Women's 1-meter which had Abbie Harned at the top of the leaderboard with 238.70. Following the event was the Men's 1-meter dive where Tobie Stiles came back with another first place claim, accumulating a total of 272.80 points.

As the teams kicked off the 100-yard events, the first happened to be the Butterfly. Font-Cantarero, Sophia Moore, and Santi placed in the top three, while Ryan Lund landed his own third place finish. The 100-yard Freestyle had Haerr and Hannig filling out the top five for the Wildcats, with first and fourth finishes respectively. Nolles was placed at the top with his time of 43.99 and Rosatelli earned his way into the top five with a time of 46.82. 

Carbone and Strazny took first and third place in the 100-yard Backstroke while Auger found first place, all the while being the only Wildcat to fall in the top five for the men's team.

The 500-yard Freestyle saw Wright coming out on top once again, and allowing Geyer to fly into third place. As for the Men's team, Dickman took home second place with his time of 4:34.31 and Lopez-Aponte placed third at 4:36.20.

Along with Harned's first place finish in the 1-Meter Dive, she was also able to do the same for the 3-Meter Dive. Lauren Plockmeyer made her way into the top five, taking third place, with a score of 212.10. The Men's 3-Meter Dive proved that Tobie Stiles is still as hardworking as ever with his second place finish, scoring 232.80. Diego Carrillo followed behind in third with a score of 210.15.

The 100-yard Breaststroke saw four Women Wildcats making up the top five, with Dekievit in second, while Roe, DeCarlo, and Houwers filled in the rest of those spots. The men's team found Fulconi taking third with his time of 56.22.

To finish out the meet was the 400-yard Freestyle Relay where the Women's and Men's teams were rewarded with first place. Haerr, Santi, Wright and Bloser made up Group A for the Women, and LaCount, Fulconi, Khmara, and Nolles made up Group A for the Men.
