LEMONT, Ill. - The Northern Michigan University Men's golf team wrapped up the Lewis Flyer Intercollegiate event yesterday with a strong top half finish. The team finished the event in 6th place out of 12 teams, with a total score of 606 (301, 305) at +30.
The two rounds were played at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club from the black tees, for a total of 6889 yards each day.
Eric Yun and
Walter Ylitalo both finished in the top half of the leaderboard, with Ylitalo securing a top 10 position. Northern made a total of 20 birdies over the course of the tournament.
The Wildcats were 33 strokes off of the tournament winners, Davenport University. A full leaderboard can be found

How It Happened
Round One
- Russel Sprecher finished his first round of the tournament with a consistent round of 75 (+3), he made one birdie and is sitting comfortably at T20.
- Walter Ylitalo and Tyler Annala also came in with scores of 75 (+3) and are tied for 20th. The two made a combined total of five birdies. Ylitalo shot an even 36 on the front and Annala shot 36 on the back nine.
- Eric Yun followed close behind, tallying the teams' 4th score of 76 (+4), and sits one spot behind his fellow three teammates at T26. Yun shot an even par on the back nine.
- Freshman Arther Ylitalo came in with the fifth score for the team, shooting 85 (+13), sitting in the T65 spot.
- Individual competitor Joseph Luke finished his first round in position T59, he shot 82 (+10).
Round Two
- Walter Ylitalo finished an amazing second round of golf, shooting 71 (-1) and moving up 10 positions on the leaderboard following round one, Ylitalo secured solo 10th place. He made four birdies and three bogeys in his round.
- Eric Yun was next up on the leaderboard who was able to drop one stroke from his first round, shooting 75 (+3) and ending the tournament in T25. Yun grinded on the course to improve from the first day, he was able to shoot an impressive -2 on the back nine.
- Tyler Annala took the third team spot, shooting a second round of 81 (+9), he finished tied for 42nd and played a successful front nine at just +1.
- Russel Sprecher fought hard to produce a suitable score for the team rankings, he shot 83 (+11) and finished in T47. Sprecher made two birdies on the front.
- Joseph Luke finished his rounds in the individual category of the tournament, ending in the T63 spot and shot a second round of 85 (+13).

The Men's golf team will continue its fall schedule at the Davenport Panther Invitational at the Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort in Augusta, Michigan, from October 14-15.
