MARQUETTE, Mich.--- The Northern Michigan University National Training Site weightlifting team earned multiple medals at the Junior and U25 National Championships in Las Vegas. The events are a part of USA Weightlifting's National Championships week which runs through July 3.
Top Junior finishers were
Lander Wells,
Ryland Shriver, William Heller and
Ella Holden, who all earned top-three finishes.
Wells total of 289 kg gave him the win in the 96 kg weight category. He also earned gold for his 130 kg lift in the snatch and a gold for his lift of 159 kg in the clean and jerk.
Shriver, who competed at 109 kg, also placed first for all three of his totals, which included snatch
(152 kg), clean and jerk (195 kg) and total (347 kg).
Heller took third at 102 kg with his 287 kg total. He netted bronze in both the snatch (129 kg) and clean and jerk (158 kg).
Making the podium on the women's side was
Ella Holden. Holden lifted 76 kg in the snatch and 93 kg in the clean and jerk. She earned silver medals for both of those lifts and her total of 169 kg gave her a second-place overall finish in the 55 kg weight class.
Earning medals in the U25 event were
Jayda Jenkins and
Calvin La.
Jenkins finished first in the 55 kg category with her total of 160 kg. She also won a gold for her 94 kg lift in the clean and jerk.
La took home bronze at 73 kg with a total of 250 kg. He also won a silver for his 115 kg lift in the snatch.
