Nutter Drops Final X Series But Earns U23 Spot

Alston Nutter Throws Sancho During First Round
MARQUETTE, Mich. - National Training Site Greco-Roman wrestler Alston Nutter fell short of making his first Senior World Team last night at the Final X Tournament at Madison Square Garden. Nutter clinched his Final X berth with his top performance at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament May 22.

Wrestling in the 67 kg category, Nutter faced 2021 Olympian and NMU alumnus Alejandro Sancho of the US Army World Class Athlete Program in a best-of-three championship series. The first round saw both wrestlers trade points throughout the match with Sancho coming out on top 10-9 after taking the lead with 30 seconds to go. The second match ended 5-2 in favor of Sancho.

Nutter will join teammates Benji Peak and Payton Jacobson on the U23 World Championships Team that competes in Pontevedra, Spain (Oct. 17-23).  Nutter and Peak have been named to the team after qualifying for the Final X and Jacobson earned his spot after being named to USA Wrestling's National Team.
