Lacrosse Claims Commanding 17-4 Victory Over Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa. -- The Northern Michigan University lacrosse team was on the road for their third straight game, and defeated Wartburg College by a score of 17-4 for their second straight win. 

NMU improved to 4-2 on the season with Friday's win. 

The Wildcats scored the game's first six goals and seven of the eight scored in the first quarter. It was seven different 'Cats to find the net in the first, with Aleya Speas getting the game's first goal just over a minute in. 

The Green and Gold took care of business in the second quarter scoring all six goals for a commanding 13-1 halftime lead. 

Gabby Valadez scored twice in the period for NMU. It was the first career scores for the Gilbert, Arizona native. 

Another first career goal came from Rylee Haug, who scored the team's 11th goal on her first shot of the season. 

In the third quarter, each team scored twice and the score was 15-3 going to the fourth. 

Northern grabbed two of the three fourth quarter goals for a 17-4 final.

Maddi Bast led the way with another hat trick for NMU. She leads the team with 16 goals. Madeline Bittell also scored and leads the Green and GOld with 20 points this season.
