ST JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Northern Michigan University lacrosse team was tied at 12-12 with 24 second left, when
Maddi Bast beat a double-team for the game-winning goal at Missouri Western State. Bast scored three goals in the game to lead NMU.

Camryn Mayer scored her first two career goals including the game's final tally in the closing seconds.
Madeline Bittell,
Kaitlyn Bridger, and
Emily Renfrew also added two-goal games for the Wildcats.Â
NMU improved to 3-2 on the season with the win.Â

1st Quarter
The Griffons got the first goal of the game just over a minute in from Abby Lockwood.Â
Missouri Western would get two more goals within a couple minutes of each other, making it 3-0 midway through the first quarter.Â
NMU would get their lone goal of the first quarter from
Kaitlyn Bridger, as she scored her fourth goal this season. It was 3-1 Griffons after one.Â

2nd Quarter
It was a defensive start to the second frame as well, as neither team scored until the Griffons got one to go nearing the halfway point of the quarter to make it 4-1.Â
Emily Renfrew had a quick response for the 'Cats less than 60 seconds later to pull back within a pair. It was her ninth score this season.Â
Missouri Western scored a minute later to push the score to 5-2, but another minute passed when
Madeline Bittell buried her 11th tally of the season to make it 5-3 with about five minutes to play in the half.Â
Bittell started to get it going, making it an even dozen on the season to pull NMU back within one at 5-4. That score held as the horn for halftime sounded.Â

3rd Quarter
The Wildcats tied it up at five apiece right away.
Kaitlyn Bridger got her second of the game on a free position shot.Â
MWSU got that goal right back, as Madison Brady found the net for the Griffons to lead 6-5.Â
Maddi Bast scored her 11th of her freshman campaign to tie the game back up at 6-6.
Northern grabbed their first lead when
Emily Renfrew found an opening and fired one low into the nylon for her second of the evening.Â

Clara Johnson pushed the lead to two, her third of the season.
Natalie McGinnis assisted on the score. NMU led 8-6.

NMU allowed just one goal in the quarter while scoring four themselves. Northern led 8-6 after three quarters.

4th Quarter
The Griffons got back within one two minutes into the fourth on a strike from Madison Brady.Â
Taylor Priestley got it right back for the Green and Gold, as they pushed the lead to 9-7.
Madeline Bittell had the setup, her seventh helper this season.Â
Aleya Speas took advantage of a free position shot, beating the goalkeeper low for a 10-7 lead.Â
MWSU got back within a couple on a nice cut in front of the net. Morgan Nicholson got the tally for the Griffons.Â
Camryn Mayer netted the first goal of her career, coming on a free position as she fired one past the netminder. NMU led 11-8.Â
The team's kept exchanging blows, as the Griffons got it back to two with five minutes to play.

Maddi Bast got a big one back for NMU shortly thereafter, scoring her second of the game and 12th of the season.

Just 20 seconds later the Griffons had the answer. NMU led 12-10 with four minutes left.Â
With 1:27 to go, MWSU made it 12-11 after creating a turnover and converting it into a goal.Â
The Griffons tied it with :58 left on a free position goal.
With just :24 left,
Maddi Bast beat a double-team and fired one top shelf for the game-winner and her third of the game.

Camryn Mayer would add a second goal herself in the closing seconds for a 14-12 NMU victory.Â
