MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Northern Michigan University lacrosse team continued their 2022 season at home against Quincy University on Sunday (Feb. 20) taking away a 17- 6 victory over the Hawks.
1st Quarter
Quincy started out strong, as they scored the first two goals of the game.Â
With less than eight minutes left to go in the first quarter,
Maddi Bast found the back of the net, twice, putting the Wildcats on the board.Â
Madeline Bittell put the 'Cats ahead with 5:00 left in the first quarter, unassisted.Â
Burying the ball into the net,
Taylor Priestley grabbed her first goal of the season fed to her by
Madeline Bittell.Â
Minutes later
Katelyn Mongold also found the back of the net in the final minutes of the first quarter.Â
The Wildcats led 5-2 after the first 15 minutes of play.Â
2nd Quarter
Emily Renfrew kept the momentum going for the 'Cats, as she found the back of the net early in the second quarter.
Madeline Bittell fed the ball to
Clara Johnson, extending the lead with 10:30 left in the quarter, before finding her opportunity minutes later with her own scoring shot.Â
Maddi Bast kept it rolling for the 'Cats as she added another to the board.
Quincy added two more goals to the scoreboard.Â
The last three minutes of play found a goal by
Emily Renfrew, ending the second quarter 10-4 in favor of the Wildcats.Â
3rd Quarter
Quincy started hot in the third, putting up the first goal of the quarter.
Katelyn Mongold quickly answered back and sniped one past the goalkeeper for her second of the game.Â
Emily Renfrew found the net for another goal at 4:36. Moments later
Madeline Bittell fed
Natalie McGinnis to allow her to put one between the posts.
The score read 13-5 Wildcats with a quarter to play.Â
4th Quarter
Dayna Carlson put the first goal of the fourth quarter on the board, assisted by
Madeline Bittell. Minutes later Carlson puts another in the net, making it her second of the game.Â
Jane Taylor finds the net, making the goal her first of the season, extending the lead for the Wildcats. Moments later
Kaitlyn Bridger hit the net with the final goal of the game.Â
After an impressive offensive effort from the Wildcats, they took the victory above Quincy University 17-6.Â
