MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Swim and Dive teams take to the PEIF Pool on Friday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 29.
The teams will compete against Saginaw Valley State on Friday and both Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley State on Saturday.
2022 GLIAC CHAMPIONS
The women's team was at the helm of the GLIAC last season, earning the title of 2022 GLIAC Champions. The women claimed 846.50 points in the Championship to bring home the trophy.
Coach Heidi Voigt claimed Women's Coach of the Year, while Heidi Billings earned Female Freshman of the Year.
ALL-AMERICAN RETURNERS
Ondrej Zach is back in the pool this season for the Wildcats. Last season he snagged the title of National Champion in the 1650-yard Free. He also earned All-America Honors at the NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships.
Erikas Kapocius and Roberto Camera also earned All-American titles for the Men's team.
A relay team consisting of Michaela Nelson, Donna Hannig, Jenna Joerger, and Pilar Perello Ferrer broke the school record in the Women's 800-yard Free Relay. They swam at a time of 7:26.37 to receive All-America Honors.
FRESHMEN CLASS
The Freshmen class is a very diverse group of athletes prepared to significantly impact the Wildcats. A total of 24 newcomers from 11 states and Uruguay will take to the pool.
NMU vs. Saginaw Valley State
Last season, the men were triumphant over the Cardinals taking the meet 137 to 104. They also were ahead of them at the GLIAC Championship.
The women were successful against SVSU as well. They won last year down in Saginaw with 127 points. At the GLIAC Championships, NMU came out on top while the Cardinals placed fourth.
NMU vs. Grand Valley State
The women competed against the Lakers during the regular season last year. The 'Cats dominated the match with 171 points. Facing the Lakers at the GLIAC Championship, GVSU came in third.
On the men's side, the Lakers took the regular season meet scoring 165 on NMU's 135 points. The GVSU Men's team was also named the 2022 GLIAC Champions.
