MARQUETTE, Mich. — This week the Northern Michigan University women's soccer team continues their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) play with their only game of the week on the road against rival Michigan Technological University.
The 'Cats will face off with the Huskies at 12:00 p.m. at Kearny Field on Sunday, October 3rd.

PRESEASON POLL
|
The Wildcats, coming off a GLIAC Championship match appearance, came in third in the GLIAC Preseason Poll. They notched 49 points and finished five points ahead of Michigan Tech.

KEY RETURNERS
|
Senior Caroline Halonen, the 2021 GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and All-GLIAC First Team honoree, returns to the Wildcats attack. Last season the midfielder was ranked in the top ten in NCAA Division II in several statistic categories. She was second in NCAA Division II in goals (11), fourth in total points (23), and seventh in goals per game (.92).
Sophomore Brooke Pietila is also back for NMU after a season that earned her All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors.
Goalkeeper Shenae Kreps returns to the goal for her senior season. Kreps was in net for all eight Wildcat wins and had 27 saves and a .643 save percentage in her first season in Marquette.

STAT LEADERS

This week two NMU women's soccer players jumped to first place in two categories in the GLIAC statistical rankings.
Wildcat goalkeeper Shenae Kreps moves from No. 2 to No. 1 in the GLIAC for saves with 39.
Senior midfielder Caroline Halonen also takes over the No. 1 rank in the GLIAC for shots on goal with 40.

LAST TIME OUT
|
The 'Cats bounced back and took both matches on the road this week, with big wins over Saginaw Valley State University and Davenport University.
In their match with the Cardinals, two freshmen stepped up on the road. The goals from midfielder Maria Storm and forward Ashley Koch led the 'Cats to a 2-1 win.
After their win against SVSU, the team traveled to Davenport and ended the week with a commanding 5-1 win over the Panthers. Freshman midfielder Justina L'Esperance was the game leader with two goals for the 'Cats.

The Wildcats and Huskies have faced off in 19 matches. The 'Cats lead all-time against rival Michigan Tech with a record of 9-7-2. The last time the teams met ended in a 3-1 win for NMU.
