MARQUETTE, Mich. — The No. 19 Northern Michigan University Volleyball team is headed to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament at Saginaw Valley State University on Friday to take on the winner of the Davenport University vs. Lake Superior State University opening-round game.
The Wildcats earned a first-round bye by virtue of winning the GLIAC regular-season championship. Their quarterfinal game will take place at 7 p.m. in University Center, Mich.

The Wildcats played Michigan Tech twice last weekend with one game coming on the road and the other coming at home. The road match went in favor of the Huskies with MTU taking the contest 25-23, 17-25, 14-25, and 11-25.
Saturday's match was for the championship. After four tough sets, it came down to the fifth. With NMU up 14-12, freshman Jacqueline Smith delivered the following match-winning kill:
Sets of 25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 11-25, and 15-12 earned the Wildcat win and the regular-season title.

CHECK THE STATS |
NMU ended the season with one player leading a GLIAC stats category and several others in the top five of multiple categories.
Meghan Meyer leads the conference in hitting percentage with a mark of .411.
Smith is second in two categories: kills per set (4.02) and total kills (193).
The Wildcats are represented in digs per set and total digs by Alli Yacko. She is fifth in digs per set with 4.71 and second in total digs with 259.
Lauren Caprini and Lauren Van Remortel round out the NMU contingent in the stats rankings. Caprini is fourth in service aces per set (0.41) and Van Remortel is tied for second in assists per set (11).

HOME-COURT ADVANTAGE |
The friendly confines of Vandament Arena saw lots of Wildcat success this year. The team went a perfect 7-0 at home this season.

NMU VERSUS DU |
NMU holds a 5-2 overall record over the Panthers. The Wildcats swept Davenport this year in their two matchups. Match one was a 3-1 victory and match two was 3-2 in favor of NMU.
The Panthers finished the regular season 8-6 overall and in GLIAC play.

NMU VERSUS LSSU |
The Wildcats are 88-17-1 against the Lakers all-time. NMU took both matches against LSSU this year with a pair of 3-0 sweeps.
The Lakers ended the GLIAC regular season with an 0-10 GLIAC and overall mark.
