MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Women's Basketball hosts St. Cloud State University and Concordia University St. Paul this weekend in the team's first games inside the Berry Events Center this season.

LAST TIME OUT
|
The Wildcats traveled to Minnesota last week but was unable to bring home a victory. On Thursday, NMU visited Minnesota State University Mankato and had two players reach double figures while two others had eight points but eventually fell to the Mavericks 83-57.

LEADING THE TEAM
|
Senior Erin Honkala (Howell, Mich.) led the Wildcats in Saturday's game with Duluth. She scored 11 points to pace the offense and added a team-best nine rebounds. She also reached double figures in Thursday's game with Mankato, scoring 10 points and also grabbed six rebounds to grab a team-high again. For the weekend, the senior averaged 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.

CRASHING THE BOARDS
|
NMU grabbed more offensive rebounds in both games last week. In Thursday's game at Mankato, the Wildcats grabbed 15 offensive rebounds with junior Lexi Smith (St. Germain, Wis.) and redshirt freshman Madigan Johns (Ishpeming, Mich.) both had three. Against the Bulldogs on Saturday, Honkala led the way with three offensive boards.
NMU grabbed a total of 15 offensive rebounds while the Mavericks finished with 10. At Duluth, the Wildcats bested the Bulldogs 8-5 on the offensive glass.

ON THE DEFENSE
|
The Wildcats are once again known for defense as they have kept two of their opponents under 50 points this year. In the season opener, NMU kept William Jewell to just 33 points. This weekend against Duluth, the defense was tough once again, keeping the Bulldogs to just 45 points.
Among GLIAC teams, the Wildcats are second by forcing teams into 38% shooting and 56.5 points per game.

NMU VERSUS SCSU
|
This will be the first meeting between SCSU and NMU since the 2007-08 season. The Wildcats won the first meeting in 1985 but have dropped the past four. The Huskies come into the weekend 3-0 to start the season, including a victory over Michigan Technological University.

NMU VERSUS CSP
|
NMU holds a 4-5 record with the Golden Bears after a 63-61 defeat to CSP last season on the road. The Golden Bears visit Michigan Tech Friday night and enter the weekend at 1-2 on the season.
