  LAST TIME OUT

Last week, the Wildcats tipped off the season at Lewis University for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Great Lakes Valley Conference Challenge. The seeason got started with a 60-33 victory over William Jewell College Saturday. The team returned Sunday to take on the hosts but fell to Lewis 65-41.

  SCORING POINTS

Senior Jessica Schultz (Mineral Point, Wis.) and junior Lexi Smith (St. Germain, Wis.) both reached double digits in points this past week to lead the offense.

Schultz scored 12 points in their game against WJC and now has a points per game average of 8.5. Smith was able to net 11 points against Lewis and leads the team with a points per game average of 9.5.

Senior Erin Honkala (Howell, Mich.), juniors Amber Huebner (Marquette, Mich.) and Elizabeth Lutz (Marshall, Wis.), and redshirt freshman Madigan Johns (Ishpeming, Mich.) all had six points each in the game against William Jewell.

Honkala also had another six points against Lewis.

  GETTING DEFENSIVE

The Wildcat defense made a large impact in Saturday's win over the Cardinals as they held WJC to single digits for the final three quarters. They nearly shut out the Cardinals in the second quarter and only allowed one point when the cardinals were able to sink a free throw. NMU opened the quarter with 12 points before WJC was able to score and forced the Cardinals into 0-12 shooting from the field.

As a team, WJC shot just 23% from the field and 14% from behind the three point line.

  GOING DEEP

NMU had 10 players who averaged double figures minutes over the weekend, led by Huebner's 28 minutes. Smith and Schultz also played 20 minutes in each game.  The Wildcats played a total of 13 players in both games.

  NMU VERSUS MSU MANKATO

NMU has faced off against the Mavericks only three times in program history, defeating them in two of those meetings. The Wildcats look to repeat last season's 71-51 win over Mankato.  The Mavericks have only played one game so far this season, a 91-74 win over Division III University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

  NMU VERSUS MINN. DULUTH

The Wildcats have a 23-19 winning record over the Bulldogs and look to widen the gap despite losing the las two seasons. The Bulldogs enter the week at 0-3 after falling to Drury University and Fort Hayes State University, who are both ranked in the NCAA Top Ten. They also fell to Missouri Western State University.
